Clonk.

Clonk.

Clonk.

Kipper's shoes hit the wet pavement. He kept looking forward, using his goggles to see through the suddenly harsh rain.

Pidge clung onto his back, bracing against the rain as well.
His hazelnut eyes squinted to no avail to see through the downpour.

The paladin's back had been injured.  Kipper felt a sense of guilt and responsibility, so he took the labor to carry him on his back.

It wasn't hard, honestly.  Pidge was pretty lightweight.

"Are you sure you can carry me all the way back?", Pidge asked him.

"Back when I used to take over Galra bases with other soldiers of the rebellion", Kipper replied, "I used to have to carry the bodies of my fallen comrades.  I'm used to it."

Used to being the reason for so many of my comrade's pain.

"Listen Kip, I know you're beating yourself up over this. I can feel it. It's okay. "

"I'm not beating myself up over anything. "

Pidge rolled his eyes.
"Yeah right. I'm supposed to believe that? You can cut the cocky act", he replied sarcastically.
"You're a DiNicolo for god's sake. You're entire family is full of self loathing."

"True. But still."

"You're about as stubborn as your cousins, Kipper."

Kipper smirked.
"And who made you my spouse?", he teased playfully.

Pidge smacked him upside the head.

"I'm fine. I swear, Pidge."

I just have to be more careful.

I refuse to let anyone else get hurt because of me.

A strange pressure on the top of his head bothered Kipper.

"Pidge?"

Light breathing was muffled into the hybrid's hair.

"Pidge? You aren't asleep are you?"

No response.

"How can you sleep in this weather?!"
