Review:

Mixed emotions for an excessively long book.

The Unexpected Everything is centered around Andie, a seventeen-year-old daughter of a congressman, who is currently a dog walker. She may not have, ever, planned on spending her summer chasing dogs but sometimes the most unexpected things are the funnest.

When Andie's father suffers from a political scandal, her whole life begins to unravel. She had a secured-spot for a pre-med internship but that was when her letter of recommendation wasn't withdrawn. Her carefully constructed summer has crumpled, leaving her behind in the rubble trying to find a job last minute that will look good on her resume. However, the only job left is walking dogs. Andie doesn't expect much from this job or really her summer. Especially when it comes to meeting a cute and charming guy named Clark.

One of the few things I did enjoy in would have to be how it may seem like a romance book but in reality it is so much more. It is about family, friendships, dealing with loss, growing up, and getting out of your comfort zone. Then there is Clark. Nerdy, adorable, and awkward Clark. I absolutely adored Andie and Clark together. They are awkward together, not knowing how to behave in the other's company and that just makes it so much more cute!

However, The Unexpected Everything was way too long. I felt that the whole book could have been cut in half and wrapped up beautifully. Instead, slowly my excitement began to dissipate and I began to feel like the book was just dragging along. It was completely unnecessary for it to be this long, all that it did was simply slow and stretch out the book. It was extremely difficult for me not to feel bored and to not give up on this book.

In the end, I didn't adore this book like I did Amy & Roger's Epic Detour and Second Chance Summer. I think I would have liked The Unexpected Everything more if my expectations weren't as high as they were. Compared to Morgan Matson's other books, The Unexpected Everything simply fell flat.
