ALTERNATE CHAPTER 4: Bet On It

~Nolan: Age 14~

Orchid and I never disagreed or argued about anything, apart from sitting in the front seat of a car though, but most people argued about that. Apart from not being able to decide who got to sit in the front seat, we were always on the same side.

       Except for right now.

At least our argument wasn't too bad. We were just disagreeing about something that I was positive I was right about, but she wasn't listening.

"You're wrong about this, Nolan," Orchid said as we carried our stuff down the beach, trying to find a spot. Our family was spending the day at the beach, along with Mae, her aunt, and Jerome. The two of us were walking behind our family so we could continue arguing about it.

"I'm not wrong," I said. "I'm telling you, I'm right. You're the wrong one."

"Just accept that I'm right," Orchid said.

"I'll never accept something that isn't true," I said as we caught up to where the others were.

"Are you two still arguing?" Mom asked.

       "About what?" Mae asked.

Mom shrugged. "Who knows? They're just always arguing about something, but they're also refusing to say what they're arguing about."

"Because I don't want Nolan to feel embarrass when he's wrong," Orchid said as she set up her beach chair, a bit away from everyone.

I knew the argument was going to continue, so I set my chair up beside her. "Trust me, you're going to be the embarrassed one."

"You know, your argument might end if you get a third opinion," Alan said. "Also known as me. I don't want to feel left out."

"No way," I said. "I mean, I don't want you to feel left out, but I have a feeling you're going to side with Orchid."

"Ha, because you know I'm right," Orchid said.

"You're wrong," I said, sitting down in the chair.

Everyone soon got occupied in doing what they wanted at the beach. Tulip wanted to go swimming in the water, but everyone was too lazy to take her, so Jerome offered to take her. And I couldn't help but watch as he took off his shirt to head into the water.

"I am so glad I'm gay," I said to Orchid.

"And I'm very glad I'm straight," Orchid said. "Like Jerome."

"I'm telling you, he's gay," I said. "I just know it."

"How can you be so sure?" Orchid asked.

"No straight man is that perfect," I said. "Except for Zander Millington. Anyway, my point is that it's obvious that he's gay."

"No, it's not," Orchid said. "He doesn't even look gay."

"Nobody looks gay, Orchid," I said. "Do I look gay? No, I don't because no one was able to tell I was gay until I came out."

"Why don't you go ask him?" Orchid asked.
