I miss Hart Street alternate chapters. I've been writing Hart Street screenplays in my free time and I love it so much.

Anyway, quick explanation since this wasn't planned last time I wrote a Hart Street chapter: The school the Princes go to is a school for the arts and sports (I had to add sports for Alan ahahaha).

So this chapter is about Nolan coming out to his family and how they find out that he's dating Jerome (because in Hart Street, they secretly date for about three months before Nolan comes out). And it's in three parts because oof.

ALTERNATE CHAPTER: Hart Street 8

~Nolan: age 15~

Standing outside of my own home while working up the nerve to walk in to talk to my parents was such an odd feeling. I mean, it was my own home. I should just walk inside but I couldn't.

Because I promised myself that today would be the day I told my parents I was gay. I couldn't hide it anymore. I didn't want to hide it anymore. I just wanted to be me.

Right now was the best time to come out. I'd rather tell just my parents first and with my nosy siblings being home, I couldn't risk them listening in. However, none of them were going to be home for a while. Ryder had dance practice, Orchid was rehearsing for a group project, and Alan had basketball practice.

I had to do it now.

I took a deep breath before walking inside my house. Mom and Dad were both sitting on the couch, watching TV. When they noticed I returned home, Mom asked, "How was school?"

"It was good," I said. "Can... Can I talk to you two?"

Dad realized it must have been serious because he immediately paused the TV. "Yeah, of course. Come sit down."

I did hesitate a bit before heading over to the couch and sitting down. "This... is actually going to be hard for me to say," I said. "But I did tell myself that today would be the day I told you."

"Just take your time if it's too hard," Mom said. "And whatever it is, we'll listen."

My parents always listened to my problems, no matter how small it was. But this was still such a hard thing to say.

When I haven't said anything for a few moments, Dad said, "Nolan, you can tell us. We're your parents. We're here to listen."

I nodded and took a deep breath before saying the words I always struggled saying. "I'm gay."

Out of all the reactions I could get from my parents, the one I did get was one that I wasn't expecting.

       "Yeah, we know," Mom said.

I furrowed my eyebrows. "You... You know? But... How? I haven't... I never said or done anything that shows it?"

"You really don't remember, do you?" Mom asked.

       "Remember what?"

"What you said to me one day when you were five," Mom said. "We all went to an amusement park for the day. There was a huge Ferris wheel that everyone wanted to go one, except for you because you've never been too fond of heights. So I took you to get something to eat and while we were sitting down, you told me that one day, you're going to find a husband that makes you happy, just like how your father makes me happy. And I asked if you wanted a wife instead but you really didn't. You asked if it was okay that you wanted a husband so I'm going to tell you the same thing I told you then. Of course it's okay, Nolan. As long as you're happy, that's the only thing that matters."
