ALTERNATE CHAPTER 8: Jerome Roy | Part VIII
~Jerome Roy: age 17~
After I had dinner at my house, I decided to go over to Nolan's to see how he was feeling with what happened at school today. I didn't even have to go inside to talk to him. He was standing on his porch, a blanket wrapped around him.
When he saw me walking up to the porch, he gave me a small smile. "Hey," he said.
"Hi," I said, standing behind him and wrapping my arms around him, resting my chin on his shoulder. "So what are you doing outside? I thought you hated the outdoors when it's dark."
"Not always," Nolan said. "If I'm right by my house or somewhere else I feel comfortable, then I'm fine. It's just that the night comes with unexpected things and I hate the unexpected."
"So I shouldn't ever plan you a surprise birthday party in the future?" I asked.
"It wouldn't work anyway," Nolan said. "I'm a triplet so even if you plan the party just for me, Orchid and Alan would make it all about them. It really sucks at time. I don't have a day just for me."
"Every day is just for you according to me," I said, kissing the side of his neck. "So since it's your day, want to go to a cafe or frozen yogourt or something?"
"I'd love to but I don't like going out this late," Nolan said.
"Okay, then how about we go to your room and ma--"
"No."
"Awe, come on, why do you always have to turn me down?"
"I'm not really turning you down. We can go to my room and watch movies. And I even like you enough that I'll share some of my food from my food stash with you. I have chips, cookies, brownies, more cookies, sour gummy candy, chocolate, and even pop."
"Wow, I feel so honoured that you're willing to share with me," I said. "Because you once called me a loser and threatened to break up with me just because I stole one of your fries during lunch. And you were even about to cry."
"That's because I love food," Nolan said.
"Yeah, I could tell," I said. "So... How are you feeling? About what happened at school today?"
Nolan was silent for a bit before saying, "Well, I did tell my cousin about it and long story short, she's probably getting suspended tomorrow."
I furrowed my eyebrows. "Why would she get suspended?"
"Do you not know who my cousin is?" Nolan asked. "She's in your grade. Elizabeth Wilde."
"Wait, Elizabeth is your cousin?" I asked. I definitely heard about Elizabeth. Everyone was scared of her because she was always getting into fights with people who crossed her or anyone she cared about.
"Well, she's my second cousin," Nolan said. "My dad's cousin's daughter."
"Yeah, all I heard was cousin," I said. "I never knew she was your cousin. But... I still don't get why she will be suspended tomorrow."
"Because Mrs. Goth said if she gets into one more fight, she'll be suspended for three days," Nolan said. "And when I told her about those guys in my grade, she said she would show them exactly what it feels like to be hurt the way I did. I tried to tell her that threatening them would work but she wouldn't listen to me."
"Well, normally I would want to try to convince Elizabeth to only threaten them but I'm a horrible person and want the violence," I said.
"Yeah, that does sound horrible," Nolan said.
"I know," I murmured as I continuously pressed kisses into his neck.
"Jerome, who's that pulling into your driveway?" Nolan asked, which made me stop kissing him to see what he was talking about.
A small black car pulled into the driveway, my eyebrows furrowing. "I don't know," I said. "My dad would have told me if he's inviting someone over. And he wouldn't even be inviting someone over this late because he had a lot to do. Maybe it's pizza delivery. Even though we already ate."
I was wrong.
It wasn't pizza delivery.
As soon as the car door opened and the driver stepped out, my heart immediately dropped.
"It's my mom," I said, watching as my mom made her way up to my house.
Nolan sense how uncomfortable it was for me to see her so before she could even see me, he grabbed my hand and led me inside his house.
"Hey, Dad," Nolan said, looking over at Grayson who was sitting on the couch watching TV. "Can Jerome stay here for a bit? Great, thanks."
"No problem," Dad said.
Nolan and I went to his bedroom and as soon as he closed the door behind us, Nolan asked, "What is your mom doing here?"
"I don't know," I said. "I don't even know how she found out where we live. You don't think my dad invited her, do you?"
"Jerome, he took you away without telling her once he found out she was abusing you," Nolan said. "There's no way he would invite her over."
I got a text from my dad just done, feeling relieved because it definitely assured me he didn't tell her where we lived; Your mom just showed up out of the blue. I don't know how she found out where we lived but stay at Nolan's until she leaves. I'll tell you when.
"He didn't tell her, thank goodness," I said, dropping my phone on Nolan's nightstand before flopping on the bed. "She found us when we live in a whole other country. What if she decides to move down here? What if she's able to convince my dad to let us back in our lives? What if--"
"Jerome, none of that is going to happen," Nolan said. "Okay, maybe the first one might but if your dad, again, was willing to move you away from her without telling her, then there's no way he would let her back into your life."
I sighed. "Yeah, I guess you're right."
"Would some food make you feel better?" Nolan asked, walking over to his desk and opening the bottom drawer. He grabbed a handful of food and two cans of pop before sitting on the bed and dropping them on there. "Pick your choice."
"Wow, you really do have a stash of food and you're willing to share with me," I said. "I feel honoured. So so honoured."
"Well, like I said, I love you enough to share with you," Nolan said.
Wait...
What?
"You what?" I asked.
Once Nolan realized what he said, his cheeks reddened as he looked away. "Nothing. I said nothing."
"Hey," I said, gently resting my hand on his cheek and turning him to look at me. "I love you too."
"Really?" Nolan asked hopefully. He was so adorable.
"Yes, really," I said before pressing my lips on his.
