ALTERNATE CHAPTER 6: The True One Part III

~Nolan: Age 16~

It was so weird how my mood could go from feeling extremely sad to being as happy as I had ever been.

And I never thought I'd be this happy again.

"You better not fall asleep on me," Jerome said once I closed my eyes, but only because I was so comfortable and a tiny bit tired. Snuggling with Jerome had always been one of my favourite things. Whenever I was sad or frustrated or stressed, it always made me feel better.

       "I won't," I said. "I'm just tired."

"I wonder why," Jerome said and even though I wasn't looking at him, I could tell he had a smirk on his face.

       "Shut up," I said.

Jerome just chuckled and wrapped his arms tighter around me. "I love you so much, Nolan."

"I love you too," I said. "But I am a bit hungry and I want to get something to eat."

"Aw, you don't want to snuggle just a bit longer?" Jerome asked.

"Of course I do, but food," I said.

"Somehow, someway, your arguments always have to do with food," Jerome said.

       "Because food."

Jerome laughed slightly and kissed my forehead. "Alright, we'll get food. But then we're coming back we're coming back here to watch a movie because it's entertaining watching movies with you. You always get so mad at the characters."

"Uh, that's because most of them are idiots," I said. "If they actually wanted to live, then they should listen to me yelling at them next time."

       "My point exactly," Jerome said.

Jerome and I put our clothes on before heading down the stairs to get something to eat.

Apparently, I didn't hear my dad's car pull into the driveway, or him coming into the house but he was home, looking around for something in the living room.

I stopped when I reached the bottom step and Jerome crashed into me before punching my arm.

I was tempted to head back up the stairs, but I didn't because Dad soon looked over and he looked a bit confused when he saw Jerome standing with me. "Hey, Dad," I said. "What... what are you doing home? I thought you didn't get off of work until five."

"I'm on a break and I have to grab a file I brought home," Dad said. "That's if I could find it. What are you doing home? Shouldn't you be in school?"

"Yeah, but... I left early because of, well... You know, the usual," I said.

"Is everything going okay there?" Dad asked.

"Yeah," I said. "It's... Going fine. I just wasn't in the mood to stay so Jerome drove me home since Mom and Ryder were busy."

"Oh, okay," Dad said. "Have you seen the file anywhere? It's in a blue folder."

I spotted it on the shelf where we put all our board games, so I walked over and grabbed it before handing it to Dad. "Here."

       "Thank you," Dad said.

"So... When did you get hear?" I asked. "I didn't hear you pull up in the driveway."

"Oh, just a minute ago," Dad said. "So no, don't worry, I didn't hear you two making love."
