ALTERNATE CHAPTER: Hart Street 3
~Nolan: age 15~
Time had never gone by so slowly before. I thought an hour detention would go by extremely fast, or at least a bit fast. However, dealing with all the arguments and Ryder constantly having to stop fights before they began, time felt way too slow.
"I'm so bored," Alan said in a whiny voice, slumping down in his chair. "When is this torture over?"
"We've only been here for ten minutes," Ryder said.
"Ten... Ten minutes?!" Alan asked. "That's like... Five hundred seconds!"
"Uh, Alan?" I asked. "Ten minutes is actually six hundred seconds."
"See, this is what detention is doing to me," Alan said. "I'm losing more brain cells by the minute. I can't stay in this classroom any longer. I'm going to go crazy."
"And I'm going hungry," I said.
Jerome looked at me with furrowed eyebrows. "But I brought you a lot of snacks."
"I ate it all."
"And you're still hungry."
"I'm always hungry."
"Who cares if you're hungry?" Alan asked. "I'm bored. Bored. I can't stand being in the classroom anymore. I feel like the walls are closing in. Someone save me. I feel faint."
Alan then fell off of his chair, collapsing onto the floor. And people call me dramatic.
"Is he dead?" Mae asked.
Ryder leaned back in his chair to get a better look at Alan. "Nope, he's still breathing."
"Aren't you going to do something about it?" Mae asked.
Ryder looked back at Alan, debating his options before going back to working on his homework he was doing. "Nah, he'll be fine."
Atticus was the one who got up from his seat and walked over to Alan, kicking his leg. "Dude, you alright?"
"I passed out," Alan said. "Leave me alone."
"Mrs. Goth will probably be here any minute to check up on us since she hasn't done it yet," Atticus said. "And she doesn't want us out of our chairs so you might want to sit down again."
Alan sighed and held out his hand. Atticus grabbed it and helped him stand up so Alan could sit back on his chair. Atticus went back to his spot as well and right as he sat down, Mrs. Goth walked into the classroom. Luckily, she didn't notice that Atticus was sitting back down when she walked in. To her, it just looked like we were all sitting.
Mrs. Goth stood at the front of the classroom, looking at all of us. "I feel like some of you broke the rules," she said. "And I can't just ask all of you because I know some of you have tension with someone else so you will probably lie to get the other in trouble."
She wasn't wrong. I could definitely see Felix trying to get Atticus in trouble, even if Atticus did break the rules, and Brandon would possibly try to get me and Jerome in trouble because he wasn't that happy with us.
At least while my family was as petty as could be, we take it to a more subtle level and would just ignore the person were didn't like instead of trying to get them in trouble.
