ALTERNATE CHAPTER 8: Jerome Roy | Part III
~Jerome Roy: age 17~
While I was becoming best friends with Nolan, Dad was becoming very good friends with Poppy and Grayson. In fact, we had become such good friends with the Prince family that they invited us to their lake house for spring break.
At first, I didn't want to get because I found out Mae was going too but then I looked at Nolan's adorable face and I caved in.
Because I admit Nolan was starting to mean a lot more to me than just a friend. I was probably never going to admit it because right now, all Nolan needed was a friend and I wasn't going to ruin that for him. I'd rather be his friend than be nothing at all.
As soon as we got to the lake house, us kids had to stay back while Dad, Poppy, and Grayson went to the grocery store to pick up food for the trip. They thought it was better than all of us coming since some would like to argue about what to buy.
Since the weather was very nice outside, all of us were waiting outside for our parents to come back with the groceries. Nolan's siblings and Mae were all relaxing on the grass in front of the lake house while Nolan and I were just sitting on the porch along with Stitch. Grayson was right when he said their pet otter rarely left Nolan's side.
Same with me, to be honest. The only time I wasn't by Nolan's side was when we were in our own homes or at school since we were in different grades so we weren't in any of them same classes. Well, I was with him all the time during lunch and that definitely was the best decision I could make since whoever hurt him that one time I found him in the washroom hadn't hurt him since.
I wasn't able to find out who it was quite yet but I knew I would eventually and when I did, that person was definitely going to regret ever messing with Nolan.
There were quite a few lake houses around this one so it didn't really surprise me when a ground of teenagers walked over here. "Hey," one of the guys said, mainly the Ryder, Mae, Orchid, and Alan since there were a lot closer to the road that led to the lake houses. "So a bunch of us are going to this bonfire place tonight that's across the lake. It's the best place for a party and the more the merrier, so would you all like to come?"
"The four of us would," Ryder said before looking at me. "Let me guess. You don't want to go because you're too boring?"
Ryder didn't really like me too much since I was currently very mad at his girlfriend. He was always trying to undermine me but honestly, he had to work better at doing it since it never bothered me.
If anything, I ended up bothering him more.
"Are you calling your own brother boring? Because I bet Nolan doesn't even want to go." I looked at Nolan. "Do you?" Nolan shook his head so I looked back at Ryder. "He's not going so I'm not going. And stop being so mean to him."
"I'm not," Ryder said.
"You said I don't want to go because I'm too boring," I said. "But Nolan doesn't want to go either so really, you're calling him boring. Good job, Ryder."
Ryder glared at me before turning his attention back to the teenagers to get more details about the bonfire place. After they left, Alan spoke up. "Last year, didn't Dad say that bonfire place is off limits and security members go there from time to time to make sure nobody is there?"
"Yeah," Ryder said. "And?"
"And nothing," Alan said. "I just wanted to prepare myself if that was the place so I can make a quick exit if security does show up."
