If You Win - Excerpt

According to a teacher I've had: "It's not gambling if you win".

And being me, that got me thinking.

I'm thinking he was talking like poker games or bets, like gambling money. Sure, in that sense if you know for certain you have a good hand or whatever and you're going to win, sure, go ahead, I see what he means when he says that.

And once again, being me, I got thinking about less literal meanings of this phrase. Metaphorical meanings if you will.

Let's use me as the example.

As of right now, I'm exhausted and haven't eaten in a while. And I probably should eat and get some sleep considering the dancing schedule I'm on.

But I'm still going to rehearsals and giving it my all on two hours of sleep and no food.

This is gambling.

I'm gambling my health, I'm gambling my mental health.

And I don't know what'll happen. I could pass out, I could be totally fine. Heck, I could pass out, hit my head, and suffer a concussion. I don't know if I'll win or not.

That is gambling. I'm gambling all of this.

Therefore, gambling is still gambling, even if you win every time.
