To be honest, I never quite minded people shipping the boy and girl best friends, mostly since I love friends to lovers. As much as I wish there was more representation of girls and guys being friends in media, shipping friends to lovers is harmless. It's ten times better than shipping characters with unhealthy dynamics, or no chemistry, so I always rolled my eyes when people complained about that sorta stuff. With Liper, I follow these same thoughts, but I'm not actually invested in the ship.

Unlike romantic ships, it's very rare that I can explain in full detail why a friendship works (and better than a relationship) the same way as I do all throughout these ship books. It just...does. With me, friendships and relationship are divided by me seeing romantic chemistry or not seeing it. Liper, to me, has no real romantic chemistry. It just reads as purely platonic to me.

The only real argument to support this that I can think of is that, Piper is the most beautiful girl in the series, obviously as a daughter of Aphrodite, and Leo's known to falling in love very easily to any gorgeous girl...but he isn't attracted to her in that way. At all. How is that? Why is that? Piper isn't intimidating like Annabeth and Reyna, and they're already good friends, so what's the reasoning to this?

I'm pretty sure Leo fell for Piper but Piper friendzoned him and they moved past that since then. It's the most logical explanation, but probably the one Rick thought of is that it doesn't need to be romantic. So the fact that they could literally fall for each other but then they just don't, really drives me away from shipping them. It's a dynamic my brain doesn't want to touch. Of course, I don't blame others for doing it, since it DOES make sense, and the Hephaestus and Aphrodite parallel is cute, But it just adds that this is more of a BROTP to me.

In fact...why does the Pipercy BROTP even exist? Platonic Liper has the same dynamic, and even better (with less flanderizing from Piper). And Leo would actually be in character in the role of Percy in those Pipercy BROTP posts, so fandom, what gives?

Long story short, yeah, I see it as much of a BROTP as most do, but I don't mind the shippers that disagree. Y'all do you, it's harmless. I just see it in a different way, and find the romantic side..okay.
