Author's note- Thank you to everyone who has read this, chapter twenty is almost a milestone, right? Anyways, I always like to see who the favorite character is. I am open to all suggestions, hints, or tips that you might have. Thank you for all your support!
Adam had been found in the woods by his father, soon after. Adam had gotten the knife out of the skull, thankfully, as it dented the blade a bit. He didn't care about the blade, however. He cared about his brother that had gotten chased down by two other walkers. He couldn't take not knowing what happened to Anthony. After hours of searching in the woods, darkness fell upon the group, and they were forced to return back to base. Rick wouldn't allow anyone to go out into the darkness, searching for Anthony as it would be idiotic to.
Adam sat in the back of the RV, examining the knife that got caught into the skull of the walker. It was stupid, he thought. He couldn't even save his own brother. What else couldn't he do? When he was put to the test, he failed. How much longer could he survive in this world? If he couldn't save someone else, how could he save himself? T-Dog couldn't even help himself, as he'd sliced his arm open on a car door. He was lucky to be alive. As his mind raced with thoughts, Mikaela stepped into the room. It was another hot night of sleeping in the RV, crammed on the floor. She was restless, knowing about Anthony.
"Adam.." She whispered softly as she didn't want to wake the others, not that they were sleeping anyways.
Adam didn't look over to her, as his eyes remained on the blade in his hand.
"What?" He asked flatly. No emotion.
She made her way to the bed before sitting on the corner. Adam and Shane were offered the bed, but Shane was outside, still looking around the cars. Adam just sat in the bed, curled up. She paused before talking.
"He could still be out there, we don't know.." Mikaela said softly.
Adam didn't move. It remained silent.
"Look, what I'm saying is.. don't give up now." She said with a small smile. "He's out there, somewhere."
Adam looked up at her. "And if he's dead?"
Mikaela paused, not sure how to react. She had to remain strong. This wasn't a time to let emotions overcome her. The thought of Anthony being dead would've made her cry. Now? No.
"You'll get through it.. but we don't know if he's dead." She said boldly. "So if we don't know, we can't assume.. right? We have to keep looking.. and tomorrow.. you know we'll look more."
Adam sighed heavily. "I need air. This RV is just too hot.." He muttered as he made his way to the doorway, out of the room. Mikaela sighed as she watched, knowing it was hard for him. She couldn't imagine losing Ethan or Nick. She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and sighed, staring at the wall. Chance's blood had gotten stained into the old wallpaper.
As Adam made his way around people to get to the exit, nobody was really asleep. They were just laying there, sweating. He sighed as he finally got out, feeling the cooler air hit his skin. He could see his dad ahead, looking around to see if Anthony would appear out of the forest, as if he found his way back. He shook his head at the thought, and could feel a pain in his stomach. He needed food. He walked over to the small stack of supplies the group had found while others were searching for Anthony in the woods. He took a small granola bar, and opened it when he heard faint sounds of talking above him. He looked up to see Ethan and Brittany, along with Dale talking.
"I'll take the night shifts for watch, it's much nicer." Brittany said, wiping a bead of sweat off her forehead.
Dale chuckled quietly and nodded. "It is nicer at night, now that we don't have that hot sun on us."
