Chapter 61

Tris POV

All the dauntless crowd into a small auditorium, similar to the one we entered for the choosing ceremony.
Just smaller, and this time, it's just dauntless joining us. We take our seats and on the stage stands Max. Dauntless erupt in cheers and whistles applauding for Max. Eventually the cheers die down and he begins.

"Today, you take a big step into the life of a dauntless. You pick your jobs. Why is this so big you ask? Well these jobs contain the actions of what a REAL dauntless is, brave, daring, fighting for others. So today, I tell you this... chose wisely."

There's a silence for a minute, which is rare. Until I hear someone start yelling-probably Uriah- which tempts everyone else to scream and cheer. I guess I stand corrected. Max looks up and begins talking again.

"We will go in the order of the rankings so first is... Tris!" He says motioning for me to come up as he moves to the corner of the stage. I stiffen at my name. All eyes go on me and my stomach drops. I get up slowly and make my way to the stage as thoughts are flooding my head. Ugh! What do I want? Do I want to train the initiates with Tobias? Do I want a leadership job? Do I want to work in the infirmary? Do I want to work in the control room?! I sigh. Maybe I can just train the initiates. Even though it's a part time job.
That's ok.

I get up to the stage an out if the crowd I can spot Tobias's eyes staring right at me. He has a slight smile on his face. I can also see Christina's eyes burning through my soul signaling for me to smooth the skirt of my dress. I ignore it and think one last time.

What will make me happy?

I finally decide. I clear my throat and say,

"I chose.... Training the initiates." I smile and dauntless erupt in cheers again as I exit the small stage.

I search for Tobias's eyes and I see his face looks.. Different. His smile has slightly gone down and I can tell he's trying to fake a smile. I wonder why? I shake it off and return to my seat next to some random dauntless born. He slaps my back and laugh a bit. The rest of the ceremony is a blur.

*time lapse*

We are finally dismissed when Max made a final speech about bravery and the dauntless motto and what-not. We all cheer as we exit the room and I run to find Tobias and the group. I find everyone standing in a circle and Christina comes at me with a bone crushing hug.

"We did it!" She screeches. I giggle and see Tobias standing there. So I pull away from Christina and run to Tobias. He hugs me tight and I hug back.

"Congrats!" He says smiling down at me. I smile back and peck him on the lips.

"Ew no PDA!" Says Zeke, earning a smack on the back of his head from Shaunna.

"What now?" Uriah says

"It's getting late, I'm going to bed, see ya." Tobias says grabbing my hand. They all chuckle and head back to their apartments. I had almost forgot that I moved in with Tobias now. We are walking hand-in-hand, in a comfortable silence when Tobias stops walking and turns to me.

"Tris.... Did you really want to train the initiates?" He says raising an eyebrow.
I look at him in confusion.

"Of course I did, otherwise I wouldn't have picked it." I giggle. "Why do you ask?"

"Because I feel like it's not really what you wanted." He says.

"Of course it is!" I snap. Does he think I can't handle it or something? "Sorry.." I add quickly.

"Are you sure?" He asks. I smile at him and kiss his cheek.

"I'm positive." I whisper. He smiles at me and we head to our apartment.

Ok guys I really need you're help rn! Idk how to end this book... I was originally gonna end it at graduation but it didn't happen like that and now idk how to end it so PLZZZ comment!!! And don't worry, I will continue to write other divergent related books on my account. I will also possibly make a sequel if you guys want! ;)
