Song: PRETTYMUCH - Hello

~~~ Chapter Begins ~~~
"Hey, you."
Zion was smiling softly down at me when he said it. His eyes were as brown as I remember. Like rich dark chocolate.
I nod casually as if to say 'hi' and his smile widens.
"So, what are you doing here all alone?" He asks.
I don't say anything (obviously because I can't) and just point over to Lee and Austin chasing each other in the parking lot.
He turns and looks at them before softly chuckling and turning back to me.
"They'll be a while." He mutters before awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. "So would you like to sit with me for a while, while we wait?"
I nod.
We find a seat and as he sits across from me, I find myself craving the sparks so bad that I almost reached a hand out and touched him.
I wonder if his hands cou - "Welcome to Betty's. What can I get for you today?" She says, looking straight at Zion. She is twirling her hair around her fingers while smiling flirtatiously at him.
I roll my eyes.
How typical.
Zion either doesn't notice or just doesn't care because his attention is focused solely on me.
After he orders a chocolate ice cream he looks at me. "So what brings you to Miami Florida?" He asks.
I close off on that question. I can't tell him. No one can know. He did this to us. He got caught hitting me so we had to move. It was all him and I was not hesitant to blame him.
After a few seconds, I try to sign as casually add possible. 'The nice weather.'
He clearly doesn't believe this but lets it go which I am grateful for.
The waitress brings his food and he licks on it silently as were still in our thoughts.
Boy, do I wish I was that ice cream...
"You know it's funny, I have been in Miami for almost my whole life and not once have I meet someone who couldn't talk. It is honestly refreshing to see someone new."
He smiled and looked me in the eyes. Now we were just staring at each other. Dark chocolate on hazel. His eyes were so pretty.
I just want to - My thoughts were interrupted by someone speaking.
"Well, this awkward." Austin said as he and Izzy stood there guiltily. Zion just smiled at them as if nothing happened, which slightly disappointed me. "Oh hey, Austin, Hayley."
They say their hello's before Izzy turns to me. "Mia, I really need to go. My mom wants me home for some stupid family dinner, so we have to go and get you home."
I didn't comment on the fact that she called her family dinner stupid even though I really wanted to. Some of us don't get family dinner.
I was about to nod when Zion spoke up. "I can take her." He said surprising me and the other two, judging by their shocked faces.
"R-really?" Izzy stuttered out.
He nods. "Yeah." And then looks at me as if asking for permission. I nod too.
'You guys go on ahead.' I sign. They looked at me confused before I remember that I'm not talking to Zion.
"What?" Austin asks.
"She said that you guys can go ahead." Zion replies casually. As if it is completely normal for someone to know sign language.
Well actually it is but... Anyways.
The two looked shocked and only nod their heads.
After saying bye to us they leave, but not before I see the little smirk on Izzy's face.
We had spent the rest of the time getting to know each other. I found out that his real name is actually Caleb Zion Kuwonu he is 18 years old and from Ottawa Canada. He has an older sister named Kékéli and a younger brother named Elom. I also found out that he had a passion for singing to which I was told that he would sing to me one day.
While we were talking, there was a ping from a phone, which I found out was his. Zion answered the phone and when he was done, he looked back at me with disappointment clear in his eyes.
"I have to go, my mom needs help setting up for some business party she's hosting." I frown in sadness but nod anyways. If he has to leave, I can't keep him here.
He stands up, putting his money on the table, completely disregarding the napkin with the waitress's phone number in it, before walking out the door, me following behind him.
When we got to his car, I almost died.
A sleek orange 2018 ford mustang GT
When Zion noticed me practically drooling over his car he chuckled, walking around me and opening the door for me like a true gentleman.
"Got a thing for cars?" He asked and for some reason I had blushed while nodding softly.
"Thank you." I sign.
"Your welcome." He signs back.
I smile softly and climb in as he went to his side and climbed in. Then we were off to my house.
I didn't want my dad to see him so I told him my stop was a street from my house. I will not take any risks.
"Well this has been a fun night and I am honestly sad to say that it has come to an end." He said as he held the car door for me open.
I nod, agreeing. I hadn't had many friends since before my sister died. My dad had tried comforting us but we could never get rid of the haunting silence in the house.
A few years later my mom and brother died in a car crash. That's when my dad started abusing me and I had started distancing myself from all of my friends. They had tried to talk to me for about a week but then when they realized that I didn't want to talk to them, they just gave up.
Suffice to say, I feel as though I have made some great friends in my first week at this new school.
And I feel like Zion will become one very soon.
"Should I walk you to our door?" He asked and I shook my head with a reassuring smile when I noticed that he looked skeptical.
After a while, he slowly nodded his head before giving me an easygoing smile. "Well, then I guess I'll see you when I see you, beautiful."
I blushed, shyly waving as he opened the car door and started the engine. With a last smile, he was driving away and down the road.
