Song: Jason Michelle Caroll - Alyssa Lies

A/N: it's Thursday and no one reminded me...

Also, my sweet, beautiful, wonderful, lovely readers, I'd like to remind you all that this is a book so not everything will be completely accurate to Zion's life. I myself am not the biggest fan of country and I'm sure the real Zion probably isn't either, but it fit the chapter so I used it, please don't bash it cause now I'm kinda embarrassed 😭

I was driving across the city to blow off some steam.

Mia has been gone for a month and a half and I was panicking.

I was going crazy trying to put pieces together.

I wouldn't eat, I wouldn't sleep, I wouldn't go to school.

Mia was on my mind 24-7.

While waiting at a red light a song came on the radio and something told me to turn it up.

It was a country song, my secret favorite genre and sounded unfamiliar.

When I looked over at the screen next to the steering, I and see that it is called "Alyssa Lies"

I listened to the song, really listened to it.

And what I heard put me on alert.

Alyssa lies to the classroom,

Alyssa lies everyday at school.

Alyssa lies to the teachers as she tries to cover every bruise.

As the song was coming to an end I realized that I got my answer.

She doesn't lie in the classroom,

She doesn't lie anymore at school.

Alyssa lies with Jesus because theirs nothing anyone would do.

How didn't I see it before?

How was I so blind?

My car makes a quick U-turn.

The answer was right there in front of me.

The flinching.

The long sleeves in hot weather.

The sinking into her thoughts a lot.

The sad smiles.

It all clicked together now and I sped up.

I'm coming Mia!

I lay on the floor as I repeat the same thought over and over again.

"God's not done with you."

It's all I can hold onto.

My only saving grace at the moment.

He beat me again a few hours ago which means he won't be back for a couple of days.

I hadn't moved from this position since he beat me and right now I felt like giving up.

"God's not done with you."

But I won't because of that voice.

"Now run."

I can't.

"Get up, Mia. Get out of there!"

I can't move.

"This is life or death, Mia. Which do you choose?"

I'm so tired.

"No, Mia. Don't sleep, save yourself!"

When I pull up to Mia's house I notice that there are no cars parked out front.

I get out but don't go to the front door, I can't risk getting caught.

Walking to the back, I notice a big tree sitting right outside of a window. the window isn't too high up to where you could seriously hurt yourself jumping out of it but it isn't low either.

"Mia?!" I whisper yell.

I begin climbing and send a silent prayer to the big guy in the sky that this is Mia's room.

All those years climbing trees as a kid really payed off.

When I get the the top, I notice a little figure laying in a fetal position on the ground.

There was a dark liquid surroundings them in a puddle.

"Mia?" No response.

The window, to my happiness, is unlocked so I can just climb right in.

"Mia?" I ask again.

I walk closer and notice that the dark liquid is actually blood.

"What did he do to you?" I ask.

"Hey beautiful, I'm here." I say before laying a hand on her cheek. She winces. "Sorry. Listen Mia. I am going to have to lift you up, this may hurt a bit but I promise you will be okay." She shakes her head.

"No, then he will come for you." She signs weakly.

"Stop. Save your energy. And whatever you do, don't go to sleep.

Then she nods, so softly I almost don't see it.

First I walk to the door and notice that it's locked.

After a few kicks it flies off the hinges and the hallway greets me.

I lift her and my heart breaks at the pain-filled cry she let out.

"I got you." I whisper. "I always got you."
