With a title like Deceit, it's obvious you wouldn't have many people in the friend department.

Deceit wasn't always how he is now. At one point, he was as nice as Patton, but things started to change, out of his control, leading him to accidentally live up to his title . . .

Before

Deceit tapped his fingers on his leg nervously. Across the park in the mind, his eyes locked with Patton and Logan, who sat on a bench together, the former on his phone, the latter reading a book.

Deceit was nervous. This would be the eighth time he tried to talk to the other sides. Prior to today, he always chickened out before he could even get a word out. Now, he felt his legs seem to move on their own, towards the bench where the sides sat. A few moments later, and Patton slowly looked up at him.

"Hiya!" he said, happy as usual.

Don't blow this . . .

He gave the moral side a little wave. "I—I hate y-your cardigan," Deceit said.

Suddenly, Deceit's hands slapped over his mouth, face turning bright red. He had practiced this in front of the mirror times before, but all his nerves got to him, and he was still speaking in lies, despite his best efforts.

Patton's eyes widened, and he let out a little gasp. "You do?"

No!

"Yes," the deceptive side said, though he was fighting against himself now. "I really hate it."

Logan peered up at Deceit from his glasses, and the glare he was given made Deceit a little scared. "Haven't you heard of the phrase 'if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all'?" the logical side asked, voice a little cold.

Yes!

"N-no," Deceit said. His eyes slowly went to Patton, and it felt like his heart was breaking when he saw a few tears well up in Morality's eyes. He hadn't meant to hurt him, not at all.

"Well, I think you should just leave then," Logan said, voice now like ice.

"I'm not sorry!" Deceit lied, holding back his own tears now. He couldn't seem to move. It was like Logan's cold voice froze him in his place.

Logan knew that Deceit only spoke in lies, but what the logical trait was unaware of was that Deceit tried, he really did, to tell the truth. But when he tried to speak honestly, it was like something was holding him back, taking over and controlling his words, never letting his true feelings show.

"Then. Leave. Us. Alone," Logan said, giving him what could only be described as a death glare. Deceit flinched, not used to see the normally stoic side so protective. But then again, Deceit had been insulting Patton, even if he hadn't meant to.

"I—I'm not g-going to go," he said, backing away from them. He started running, full on sprinting away, tears rolling down his face. He really hadn't meant to hurt anyone.

After this, Deceit stayed in his room for days on end, summoning things like food and not making any contact with the other sides. After about two weeks of this, he finally emerged from his room, this time with a new outfit.

He used to wear simple t-shirts and jeans, similar to Thomas' normal style, but now, he established his own fashion. Black jacket and shirt with yellow accents, black cape, yellow gloves, and a black bowler hat. During his isolation in his room, his face had begun to change. It was painless, but now he couldn't stand to look at the mirror, to look at the half of his face that resembled a snake. To him, this new look proved that no matter how hard he tried to go against it, he would always part deceitful snake.

He cautiously made his way down the halls of the mind palace, cape swishing behind him. It was the afternoon, and the mind palace was quiet.

Deceit got to the living room and looked around. A bit had changed since he'd last seen the room. New pictures hung on the walls, and some of the furniture was rearranged.

It was still oddly quiet, and Deceit guessed the others were with Thomas filming. The other sides tried to hide Deceit from Thomas, so the deceitful side was never asked to join a Sanders Sides video. And though he wouldn't want to admit it, being left out like that hurt.

He started to walk towards the kitchen, but he heard footsteps behind him. He slowly turned, pulling up the collar of his cape a bit in an effort to hide the snake side of his face.

Virgil noticed him a moment later. His eyes went to Deceit's face, then to the snake features. He flinched, backing away quickly.

"It's not okay!" Deceit said, in lies as usual.

Virgil whimpered a bit. "L-leave me alone!" he said, his normal composure replaced by fear.

"I—can't," Deceit responded. Everything was going so wrong, and he wanted to leave, to not scare Virgil, but he couldn't seem to move from where he stood.

He ran up the stairs, and Deceit heard a door slam. He sighed, sitting down on the couch.

Suddenly, Patton, Logan, and Roman appeared in the living room, done with the day's filming. They were talking, unaware of the side on the couch, until Patton's eyes made his way over to Deceit, who was hiding his face by putting his head down.

"O-oh. Hi . . . Deceit," Patton said carefully, not noticing his snake face.

He kept silent, but gave the moral side a little wave.

"What are you doing here?" Logan snapped. He seemed to still be bitter about the last time they talked.

"S-sitting," he managed out.

"He's not doing anything bad, Lo. It's okay," Patton assured his boyfriend.

Roman was looking over at Deceit, who kept holding his collar over his face, head still down.

"Are you okay?" Roman asked Deceit, looking towards him.

"Yes," he lied. He went to adjust his collar, but the fabric slipped out of his gloved hands, and it fell, revealing his full face.

All three of the sides let out little gasps.

Deceit was panicking now, and he quickly stood, rushing back to his room and slamming the door.

He was a monster, and he knew it.

He wasn't just an extra character lurking in the background anymore.

No, now he was starring in a lead-role, he realized, staring at himself in the mirror. But he wasn't the protagonist, like he always dreamed.

He was the antagonist, the one everyone wanted to get rid of, to defeat once and for all.

No matter how hard he tried to fight it, it was time to accept it. Deceit was the villain.

For now.

Everyone loves a good origin story, right? I know I do.

This was my first time writing with Deceit, as I was unsure of how to write with him at first.

Enjoy, ~Kirs.
