"People have suffered too long and to hard in the hands of none other than Fade" our team leader, Brandon spoke and people nodded in agreement. I crossed my legs and played with the pen in my hand.

"Any more ideas to capture Fade?" Brandon asked and none answered. The answer wasn't surprising to me since we've been on this case for 3 years now. We've lost several team members and I'm expecting more ,not that I am a pessimist, they don't just know Fade, well not like I do

I lost my wife's life in her hands and she's going to pay with her's. Brad changed Slides and a video came on.

Tch that cunning bitch was dressed in white robes and a scarf? Who does she think she dealing with five year olds? I suddenly picked up interest in the meeting as Brad clicked on the play icon.

Snap out of it Davis she's a deceiver, a lair, a killer. I glared at the screen and Brad seemed to notice because not long after the paused the video.

"When was this found?" I asked after a long time of me keeping quiet

"Yesterday afternoon" Brad replied and I stood up
"Give me all the details later at the barracks I have to pick up Selene " Brad nodded in understanding and I walked out of he board room. I got into my car and drove to Selene's school which wasn't far from the station. I drove though the gates and spotted her waiting with her friends who seemed to chatter away.

I smiled at the sight

Typical Selene , always the listener. I honked the horn and she looked up from the discussion. When she recognised my car she had a look of relief before waving her friends goodbye and jogging towards the car. She opened the back door and closed it before stretching to peck my cheeks

"Good evening Daddy"

"Good evening Princess, how was school?" I asked and she smiled

" you know same old same old" I frowned at her usual reply but didn't press further . Soon we got into the barracks and reached our quarter making Selene to smile and jump out of the car

I opened the door and met Brad teasing Selene making me to cock my gun playfully

"Is he bothering you Princess?" I asked and she chuckled
"Yes daddy just shoot him already" Brad had an amused look before giving Selene back her apple and walking into my study.

"I'll be back for dinner Selene" I said as I made my way into my study. I locked the door and stared at Brad whose demeanor had changed completely from playful to dead serious.
" we have confirmed her location " he said and I motioned for him to continue
"She's in Nigeria, Lagos to be precise "

"She went all the way to Africa?" I chuckled and stopped when I saw Brad's face
"Some team members are going to Nigeria " he spoke and I smiled
"Including you" the air was knocked out of my chest as I stared at him in shock

"I have a child Brandon and I just returned from one. Selene will be hurt"
"Davis please don't mix work and personal life. I didn't come to ask I came to tell. So prepare Selene's mind that you're not going to be home for a while like a week. We leave tomorrow" I stared at Brad in shock before walking out of my study

Gosh why? I leaned on the door frame and watched as Selene put in finishing touches in the food and smiled

"Dad?" Selene called and I looked up at the set table for three.

Brad should thank his ass my daughter is nice

"Sweetie pack officer Brandon's. He will not be eating with us" she did as I instructed and handed the food to him with a smile

"Bye Selene. Davis" Brad said then walked out of the house making the atmosphere awkward. I picked up a spoon and took small sips of the soup before I felt a soft tap.
"Hmm?"

"Dad is anything wrong? You seem down" Selene said and my heart broke for my daughter

"Actually Selene I have a lot of work to do and I might not be home for a while"

"What?" Her utensils landed with a clank on the table and I moved closer to her
"Princess"
"No dad!" She didn't let me finish and I rubbed my fore head
"You just came back like last week now you're leaving again" she spoke with teary eyes and I held her palm
"I'm sorry baby it's the nature of my job" I tried to console her but it only made it worse because she snatched her hand away from mine
"Then just quit already!" With that she left the table and ran into her room making me to stand up and chase after her.

"Selene" I said and tried to open the door but it was locked

"Selene baby I won't be gone for long I promise. You can stay with the Gerald's and have lots of fun" I said hoping that'll calm her down but my heart broke when I heard her sobs from the room.

Selene didn't deserve this, she's just fourteen, she deserved a mother, a happy home and a father who isn't a workaholic. I sat outside her door for a while listening to her sobs with tears of my own rolling down my cheeks before the place slowly got quiet and I assumed she had slept

Perfect

I chose her hair pin from several on the TV stand and used it to pick the lock of her room before entering.

Her face was tear stained and she clutched onto the teddy bear her mother bought for her when she was nine. I slowly raised her head up and kept it on my lap making her to stir and adjust in her sleep. Soon my eyes got heavy and I allowed sleep to consume me making me to forget all my problems
