*laralyn's pov*

my eyes scanned up and down the expanse of my body, surveying my halloween costume with slight disdain. it's not that i didn't like it but i was always self conscious and halloween was no exception.

my costume consisted of a navy blue flapper get up, sequins and feathers included. it was a cute costume and i knew it, but still, who knew if i could actually pull it off?

i shook these thoughts off and slipped into my coordinating heels, giving one last scornful look at the mirror before picking up my purse. i rushed down the stairs, wanting to avoid the elevator traffic of my apartment while i was dressed as a flapper.

living in los angeles meant everyone used uber constantly, so of course i called one and slid into the backseat when it arrived. i know that it was close to halloween so halloween costumes weren't unusual to see out on the streets, but i still felt weird about casually walking out like i was straight from the 1930's.

i pulled my phone out from my purse, my fingers tapping a text to mitchel and telling him i was on my way. it was around 6pm and the party should be starting soon, which sent a slight wave of anxiety over me. i hoped we could just have a good time with no unnecessary drama.

a while later my driver pulled up to the familiar two storied modern house and i thanked them as i crawled out. i swung open the door and noticed the party was pretty much in full swing. they had hired a dj so he was playing a song as loud as possible while people of all different costumes grinded on one another.

my eyes tried to pick out where mitchel was as my legs carried me through the living room but with the dark atmosphere and pulsating music, it was pretty much impossible.

i bumped into a great gatsby looking fellow with a mask over his eyes, quickly apologizing before he slid his mask off and shot me a grin. it was jesse.

i breathed out a sigh of relief as i finally had found a familiar face. "hey, do you know where mitchel is?"

he shrugged, and glanced around. "my honest guess would be the drink table. you know how mitchel is."

i nodded my head. mitchel was a total party type, always one for drinks. it never bothered me too much cause we both let loose quite a bit when we wanted to.

i thanked jesse and scurried over to the table that held the beer and sure enough there was mitchel, a beer in hand as his head swayed to the music. i couldn't help but internally giggle a bit at his costume.

he was dressed as a professional boxer, low hanging gold shorts, a blue robe, and boxing gloves all intact. i took a moment to appreciate the sculpt of his figure as he looked good even on a holiday as silly as halloween.

i finally strolled over to him, tapping his shoulder and smiling as he whipped around. "mm, my flapper woman. can i say you look exquisite tonight?"

i blushed slightly and thanked the heavens that it was dark in here. "thank you muhammad ali. you look quite handsome yourself," i replied, dragging one finger down his bare chest.

he set his beer down and intertwined a hand in mine. "let's dance darling."

i nodded and followed him as he escorted me onto the dance floor. their song "swim" came on and i couldn't help but laugh as mitchel jumped around like a spider monkey, singing it to me.

i eventually loosened up enough to dance with him, singing his lyrics back to him as we giggled and kissed each other every few minutes.

after a few songs, i felt a tap on the back of my shoulder. i spun around to see alexa behind me and i gasped, enveloping her in a hug. she hugged me back enthusiastically.

"laralyn, it's been literally forever!"

"i know, oh my gosh," i breathed, beaming a smile at her. mitchel leaned down a bit and whispered in my ear that he would be back, and i nodded, distractedly waving him off as i was happy to see alexa again.

"i heard you and mitchel are back together again," she continued, wiggling her eyebrows playfully.

i waved her words off, slightly shrugging. "i mean, kinda. we're talking and everything but we aren't official. who knows if we actually will be again?"

"lara, babe, i can see how much you mean to him. there would be no point for him to bring you back into his life again just for him to not date you again. i personally think y'all are meant to be," she responded in encouragement.

"yeah i guess s-"

"excuse me, can i have everyone's attention?" i heard a familiar aussie accent pronounce into a microphone. i looked up to see mitchel on the makeshift stage they had set up for the dj, and i internally groaned. he was probably about to make a fool of himself. i swore he only had one beer.

"well, i have an announcement to make, and this party seems the right time to do it. so there's this girl that i've been madly in love with for the past ten months. i mean, she's the only thing i can think about, dream about, sing about...she's taken over my life in the best way possible. obviously no love story is perfect, but this girl is pretty damn close to perfect even when she messes up. she messes up perfectly. and i don't think i can go another day without knowing she's mine officially. so laralyn creed, would you do the honor of being my girlfriend again?"

a spotlight swept over the crowd until it spotted me out and i mentally cursed clinton, cause i knew it had to be him. alexa slightly pushed me forward and i stepped onto the stage, joining mitchel.

he gave me the microphone, and of course it was no surprise when i said, "of course i'll be your girlfriend."
