You step off the bus, your mum embracing you, tears streaming down her face. 

"Thank god you're okay," she says quietly, "thank god for Spider-Man." 

You climb into the car, watching the windscreen wipers swish back and forth.

It all made sense now: 'Peters internship with Tony Stark, how he couldn't and then suddenly could go to the decathlon. The way he had to leave at the party, and during your first date. How he would get really nervous when Spider-Man came into the conversation, how he had blushed when you said he was probably hot.' Everything. Everything made sense. It was the only explanation. 

'Peter is Spider-Man.' 

The windscreen wipers swish again.
