Its funny how when you really think about it, you aren't living. You're just breathing. My entire life I have just been breathing, just to get by. But when I met Ruby, I started living. Suddenly, life got a little better in those blue eyes.
At school
"Jimmy! Did you ask Ruby out yet?" Rikki ran up to me as soon as lunch was over
"No. I already told you-"
"Stop saying that! Just go for it!"
"But Rikki I don't really have a good reason. What if she's not at that point yet?" I asked
"Jimmy, do you think Ruby is pretty?"
" well yes. Yes I do."
"Do you like talking to her?"
"Yeah."
"Would you want to go to the dance with anybody else?"
"No I wouldn't go unless it was for her."
"There! That's all you gotta tell her! Now hurry up and be a man!" Rikki pushed me
"Well I'm not just gonna go ask her right now."
"Ask me what?" Ruby came around the corner and walked bye, giving me a wink. I swallowed and gazed at her as she smiled and walked off.
"See bro she already knows." Rikki said
"Okay okay. I'll ask her. But I gotta think of a good way. A way that will surprise her."
"You doing anything so called romantic will surprise her bro." Rikki shook my shoulders ,"girls love flowers and poetry. That's all you need to know!"
"Flowers and poetry." I nodded.
I skipped the next class and sat on my motorcycle. I got my notebook out and a pencil.
I stared at the paper. I have so much to say about Ruby but how do I write it down?
You're like a flower slowing opening up and every time you reveal each petal I want to learn more.
"What? What does that mean?" I talked to myself.
You're hair is as dark as the night sky but your soul is as bright as the sun
"That Sounds okay. But not really."
You're eyes, they are like the deep blue ocean
They swallow me whole, they give me life
You're laugh can light up a thousand rooms
It's intoxicating
"Hmmm...not so bad." I nodded and read it over a few times, "who am I kidding this is awful."
"Hey! You're late!" Ruby ran outside.
"What the hell Ruby get inside its freezing!" I ran to her
"Jimmy what are you doing?" She grabbed the paper that had fallen from my notebook
"Uh that, you do not want to read."
"Hmmm. Whose it about?" She asked
"Who do you think!"
"Wow calm down!" She laughed and I couldn't help but smile
We stood in complete silence and just looked at each other
"Wanna go um uh..." I clenched my jaw
"Hmmm??" She was being a tease
"Do you want to go to the uh um."
"Sure." She smiled
"What?"
"I'll go to the winter formal with you." She nodded
"You will?" I smiled , "I mean awesome pick you up at 8."
She rolled her eyes and we walked side by side back inside.
"Is my laugh really intoxicating?" She asked
"Try me."
She fake laughed and I pretended to stumble and slur
"Dingus." She smiled at the floor
"Only for you." I smiled
