“Are you sure you're not upset with me?” Kyle asked again, and I rolled my eyes feeling annoyed. This was the fifth time he's asking me.

Now I’m getting upset.” I admit. I inclined against the wall by my window sill and peered out the neighborhood. The streets were vacant as usual for a Monday evening.

“Okay I'm sorry. I'm coming back tomorrow evening. I just need to tidy some things here with my dad.” he explained.

“I understand, what exactly happened?" I inquired genuinely curious.

He sighs. "Our clients are getting a bit impatient with how we are progressing some internal changes. So, we have to figure how to please them while keeping things moving. It's nothing to worry about though." He ressures calmly. He seem confident enough to not make me worry.

"Well I'm happy to hear that it's not too extreme...umm, I guess I should let you know that Jackson asked me to accompany him to a pub on Friday.” I proclaimed feeling a bit uneasy about what to even expect.

There was slight pause of silence before Kyle spoke again. “H-he did what? Asked you out?”

I blushed slightly. “Not like that idiot! He says I shouldn't trust my father.” I say, dropping my eyes to the floor. I felt awful that a part of me actually believe Jackson.

“Whoa...Why would he say that?”

“Thats the million dollar question. I have to go on Friday to find out.” I respond.

“Well I'm definitely going to be there.” he states firmly.

I smiled feeling relieved. “Thank you.”

We exchanged a few more words, before he had to end the call. Once he did I flopped into my bed feeling relieved that I finally heard from him.

I'm still a little bothered that I'm not completely aware of the type of business his parents are involved in though. I feel like that part of Kyle's life remained hidden somehow.

Curious, I opened my laptop and began to Google Kyle's name. There should be some link to his parents. However I couldn't even find one social media page for Kyle. He wasn't on any of the popular platforms. I find that weird because I spotted him surfing Instagram once.

I bit my nails anxiously. My mind began to grapple with the different reasons as to why I couldn't find him. Something seemed off...

That night I went to bed not just curious about my father, but also about my boyfriend.

The next morning passed on quite normal. I didn't had any run-ins with Selena and didn't encounter any major drama.

Alicia- surprisingly- joined me for lunch. She was ranting about the Winter Ball coming up and I couldn't help but feel quite nervous about it. I've never attended any of Vector Academy social events. This year they want to go large on their Winter Ball, so preparations are starting extremely early.

I couldn't help but feel slightly excited at thought of going with Kyle. I wonder if he liked those events?

“Whats going through your head?” Alicia asks.

I glanced at her with a small smile. “Kyle. I'm wondering if he would want to go.”

A grin morphed unto her face and I blushed. “Oh gosh, you guys would look so incredible together!” she sqeauled.

I chuckled. “You think so?”

“Girl I know so-”

“Know what?” a voice interrupts above us.

We both look towards it and watched in annoyance as Jackson took a seat across from us. I was puzzled as to why he was here, but when he slide his eyes to his sister, I figured out the reason immediately.

“How many times must I tell you you can't bully me into not talking to Lyla?” Alicia asks with a frown.

I raised a brow and glared at Jackson. “Funny, I thought we were friends.” I mused with sarcasm, causing him to roll his eyes.

“Actually I was just here to check up on my two favorite girls.” he says.

Alicia and I exchanged confused looks then glared at him. “Are you dying?” She blurts dramatically.

I chuckled softly when Jackson glared at her. “Would you prefer I become hostile sister?” he asks.

She raised her hands in surrender. “Forgive me.”

He sighed. “Anyway, hope you're still on for Friday Night Lightweight.” he slid his blue eyes to mines.

I smiled slightly uneasy. “Yeah, Kyle is coming too.” I announced.

His brows drew together. “I invited you not Kyle.”

“I just thought maybe he could-”

“No. Only you Lyla. If he shows up then our deal is off.” he interrupts firmly, then pushed himself off the bench to walk away.

My mouth fell in shock and I quickly rushed from the bench, stopping him before he entered the cafeteria again. “Jackson I don't see the big deal-”

He clenched his jaws. “I don't just want to show you what your father is doing Lightweight...I also want to...Tell you something...Alone.” he admits.

My mind felt fired with a dozen possible reason as to what he may want to say to me. Jackson barely knows me. I was so confused.

“L-like what?”

“I’d give you a hint right now, but your fuming boyfriend over there might punch me in the face,” he states staring at someone behind me.

I followed his gaze and saw Kyle inclined against the cafeteria exit door watching us with a very angered expression. Even though I was surprised he was here so early, I turned towards Jackson again, intending to get my curiosity solved. I opened my mouth to insist on receiving an answer, but he spoke before I could.

“See you on Friday Lyla...Alone.” he concluded, then walked off.

Even though he didn't answer my questions, I couldn't help but think that he called me “Lyla” and not “Lightweight.”
