Song: Better Off (Dying)
By: Lil Peep

Chains on shining, you can see me riding
Cocaine lined up, secrets that I'm hidin'
You don't wanna find out, better off lying
You don't wanna cry now, better off dying

Y/n Y/l/n and Steve Randle had always been a couple. They started out being best friends when they were eight on their shared birthday. From there, they grew up together, edging closer and closer, until finally they began to date. They were thirteen at the time, a couple weeks after their birthday. Soda has made Steve tell Y/n his true feelings and thankfully, she reciprocated them.

Chains on shining, you can see me riding
Cocaine lined up, secrets that I'm hiding
You don't wanna find out, better off lying
You don't wanna cry now, better off dyin'

Now, they were seventeen. Four years of dating, which is an extremely long time for such young teens. Unfortunately, they were drifting apart. They were feeling the pressures of adulthood slicing them apart, slowly but surely. Y/n had expressed to Soda how concerned she was, but he never said anything, just held her and occasionally a tear would slip down his smooth cheek.

Baby, I'ma dive in, I don't put the time in
Even if I try hard, I ain't gonna make it
We ain't gonna make it, we ain't gonna make it

Steve wasn't sure what to do. He loved Y/n with all of his heart, but he knew she could do so much better than just a simple high school dropout, like himself. She was always being catcalled in the streets by the handsome and rich Socs, making him feel jealous and embarrassed. How could he compete with the life of the rich and the famous, when he could barely afford date night.

Baby, I'ma dive in, I don't put the time in
Even if I try hard, I ain't gonna make it
We ain't gonna make it, we ain't gonna make it
I ain't gonna make it

He sat up at night debating what to do. Should he break it off with her? Make sure she knows he loves her very much, but he sees how wonderful she is and wants her to be happy. There was only one problem; he couldn't leave her if he tried. She was his best friend of nine years and girlfriend of four years.

But, I love it when you fake, yeah
Got her little heart in my hand
And I don't wanna break it
I ain't gonna make it
But, I love it when you fake, yeah
Got her little heart in my hand
And I don't wanna break it

That night she begged him to just talk to her. That's all she wanted. Just a little communication. The problem was, he couldn't look into her eyes. He couldn't see the pain that clouded into them when he broke the news. He didn't love her anymore. Mind you, it was a complete lie. He loved her more than anything in the world. More than himself even. That was what pushed him over the edge.

Chains on shining, you can see me riding
Cocaine lined up, secrets that I'm hidin'
You don't wanna find out, better off lying
You don't wanna cry now, better off dying

She didn't say anything for a couple minutes, but her temper got the best of her and she punched her knuckle into the drywall. She let out a choked whimper, but the tears didn't start running until she got to her home. Steve stayed up all night, tears rolling down his cheeks as he stared up at his empty ceiling. This was for the best, wasn't it?

Chains on shining, you can see me riding
Cocaine lined up, secrets that I'm hidin'
You don't wanna find out, better off lying
You don't wanna cry now, better off dyin'

Y/n went on a steady decline. She stopped eating, she stayed up all night partying, and attempting to do every drug that would make her forget him. If only Steve could see his sweetheart now. He would know he fucked up. He would know she needed him, but he didn't find out that she had shot over the edge until he turned on the radio. There had been another OD in Tulsa, Oklahoma and a young girl was the victim.

Baby, I'ma dive in, I don't put the time in
Even if I try hard, I ain't gonna make it

Y/n was gone.

We ain't gonna make it, we ain't gonna make it
I ain't gonna make it
But, I love it when you fake, yeah
Got her little heart in my hand
And I don't wanna break it
