First of all, thanks for all your comments, It's really nice to know what you think. I've incorporated one flashback into this already, figured it was the right one to start with. I hope you'll like it. Enjoy. :)

"Mummy, I'm hungry," Arthur said, walking up to her and tugging on her dress to be picked up. Picking him up she took some comfort in knowing that he'd always be a mummy's boy. Whenever he wanted comfort or was unsure about something, like the situation they'd just been in, he'd come to her.

"Come on, I'm sure that the big group will have dispersed by now," Glen told them as he and his family went back to the restaurant at the venue. "You okay?" Glen asked her, his arm around her back as she nodded her head. "Yes," she assured him as she gave him a small smile. As they settled around the table, Glen having filled Arthur's plate, they settled down, Arthur between his parents.

"So what is it you do?" Niamh asked her with a smile on his face as they sat around each other. Well, that was a complicated answer to a simple question, Kate thought to herself as she tilted her head to the side.

"Long story short." she chuckled, putting her fork and knife down. "as the head curator I oversee the research that happens at the museum, initiate research programs. Write my own papers and do my own research and make sure my department is at it's best." she explained with a chuckle.

"And what it Geology?" Lisa asked her as she turned to look at her. "It's the history of earth basically, the animals, people and things that lived throughout the course of earth's history," she explained with a tilt of her head, letting out a small chuckle as she saw the overwhelmed faces around her.

"heavy stuff." Gary chuckled opposite of her as Kate tilted her head to the side. "I suppose so," she admitted with a smile. "But I love every moment of it. I got my doctorate in Geology. I never knew enough about it and it enabled me to do my own research. That was the plan at least." she told them with a small smile as she looked down at her son.

"But as the head of my department and soon of the museum, I can hand off the list of research subjects that I wanted to study but never would have been able to finish," she explained with a chuckle. Pretty genius if you asked her. that way her list of research subjects still happened and in collaborations, with several universities across the UK, she was never short of graduate students to do it. Her list of research would be done by her and others. The things that were on the top of her list were researched by her in the lab of the museum.

"I get to focus on a lot of things so it's better this way than it could have ever been otherwise," she explained as they nodded their head. They couldn't help but be overwhelmed and be intimidated by her a little. Glen hadn't been wrong, she'd raised their son all on her own, managed to build a career for herself and the scientific community.

"Have you been published?" One of Glen's grandparents asked her as Kate nodded her head. "Three times since I graduated five and a half years ago," she told them with a small smile and nod of her head as she took a nervous sip of her glass of water.

"Dinosaurs?" they asked her as she let out a small chuckle. "One about dinosaurs that was the last paper I wrote. The first one I did was about the earth's plates and the continents on them," she explained as their eyes bulged a little. "And the second I did two years after Arthur was born about the Cumbrian era," she told them with a smile.

"In England?" Lis asked already knowing it would be a stupid question but couldn't help but ask. None of them were as academic as this woman sat with them. "No." she smiled at her in a reassuring manner which made her feel a little better than Kate wasn't looking down on them because of their lack of knowledge.

"The first period of life on earth about 430 million years ago," she explained as they let out a small chuckle. "How can you research that?" they asked her as she tilted her head with a chuckle.
