I am not your mermaid
I am a siren luring you in with
Otherworldly melodies so beautiful
You know they are from a universe
To which mortals are not privy.
I am the two fishes
Swimming in tandem, parallel,
One in your world but the other
So deep, deep in the water
That it is another world entirely.
I glide my body through
The cool, shimmering ether and
As the sunlight glints off my body
I give you the best of both worlds.
Take me out of the depths
And into shallow living
And I cannot breathe,
But if you join me in diving
Then you will drown.
We are separate but equal,
And maybe we can never coexist,
We can only observe each other
With surface tension in between.
