I PLOD INTO school with my black backpack feeling like lead

I PLOD INTO school with my black backpack feeling like lead. Groaning, I spy Abby. She looks over at me shortly before huffing, grabbing her stuff and slamming her locker before walking away from me. I watch her walk toward Mac who looks over at me with a shrug and a goofy smile. He waves at me but is quickly hit by Abby. I wave back before turning to my locker. Suddenly, a body slides up next to me.

"Hey, Ever," a smooth voice says. I turn to see Cody. Cody as in my school's bad boy/druggie.

"Cody," I start, a little hesitant as to why he is talking to me. "What's up?"

"I saw you Monday." My mind runs, trying to figure out what he means. Then I remember: I was showing off my bra to the whole school because of that stupid car washing fundraiser. "How about you and me get out of here and go have some fun?"

"Uh, no thanks," I shake my head. My skin prickles when he suddenly leans toward me. Cody himself is attractive, and he knows that. Which is why he constantly gets girls falling at his feet.

"Come on, baby," he coos. My face twists.

"I said no." I state, turning around to push him back a little. Cody shows surprise before regaining his cool.

    "Fiesty."

I stare at him as he stares at me, a slight smirk on his face. "Just leave me alone." Cody nods his head before slinking away. I suck in a huge breath and just collapse against my locker, shoving my head into my books as I sigh.

"Rough morning?" A relieving voice comes beside me. Turning my head, I see Lucas. He has a small smile on his face as he leans up against the lockers in the exact position Cody was in a few seconds ago.

"Rough doesn't even begin to explain it. My mom made me do everything around the house yesterday, including picking up my dog's poop around the yard." Lucas winces. "And my brother got sick, so I had to pick up his puke." Just thinking about it makes me want to gag. Lucas looks sick himself.

"Gross. Anyway, I have something to ask that I am sure will brighten your spirits," Lucas starts. I perk up, turning to lean across my locker as I stare at him.

"Yes?" I try to be seductive and blink my eyelids. I don't even think he notices. I know what he is going to ask me. I've wanted him to ask me.

Well, either him or Ryder. Still, my answer will be no. There is no way I am going to a dance with a boy. When you go to a dance with a guy, they expect kisses. When kisses come, love follows.

"Do you want to go to homecoming with me?" Lucas looks at me, his green eyes shining. I open my mouth, but before I can respond, a body comes between us. My face is pressed up against a back, making me step back and look over a familiar broad shoulder.

"Sorry champ, but she's already got a date," Ryder grins. He looks down at me before winking. I just roll my eyes and close my locker, purposefully hitting his shoulder with it in the process. He sends me a scowl before turning to Lucas. Lucas loses his happy look and instead stands up to be level with Ryder.
