I SIT IN the library, my knee bouncing in apprehension as I stare ahead of me

I SIT IN the library, my knee bouncing in apprehension as I stare ahead of me. Lucas is supposed to appear and tell me the news about God. I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that God wants me dead and my life is literally relying on Lucas.

The doors slide open at the library. I perk up, tension clouding my thoughts, but see an old woman walk in all happy. I fall back against my seat, blinking my eyes slowly. I haven't felt this nervous since my first final in freshman year.

Suddenly, a familiar voice says my name.

"Ever," Lucas says. My eyes snap open and I stand up.

"Lucas," I sigh in relief and rush forward to hug him. I was worried he wouldn't make it. Lucas's arms immediately wrap around me, hugging me close to him. "How are you?"

"I'm as good as I can be. Are you okay?"

"Besides feeling like a nervous wreck, yes," I say truthfully. Lucas's eyes darken.

"Right, anyway, I did talk to--" Lucas is suddenly cut off by a body coming between me and him. Actually, it's not just one. Three bodies come between him and me, all glaring at Lucas.

"Don't touch her again," Kanye hisses. He crosses his arms, trying to look intimidating. Axel glances at Kayne before matching his pose, although Axel looks like a puppy with his hair unkempt above his ears.

"Or else we'll siege our dogs on your pillow-ass." Everett hisses. My eyes widen at Everetts statement. Usually, Everett doesn't talk like that. My surprise makes me just watch the boys glare at Lucas, while Lucas looks at me for help.

"You guys," I place a hand on Axel's shoulder. Axel turns, his brown eyes warming instantly.

    "Hi Ever," he says cheerfully.

"Hi, Axel," I say softly. "What are you doing?"

"Protecting you," Axel says with a soft grin before turning around, his mood doing a 180. "So screw off, birdie," he growls toward Lucas. Lucas just stares at him.

"You demons really are idiots," Lucas facepalms softly before shaking his head. "I'm on your side."

"That's a lie!" Kanye hisses, the thought putting a sour taste in his mouth. I glance at him before raising my eyebrow.

"No way!" Growls Everett. Then another voice comes in the library.

"He isn't lying," Ryder says as he stalks over to us. His arms are crossed, his eyes staring directly at Lucas. I expect Ryder to look at me for a moment, but he doesn't even spare me a glance as he walks over to us. Confusion lines my brow as he comes in front of the three boys, standing directly in front of Lucas.

"What's the word?" Ryder tilts his head. Lucas glances at me before nodding his head to the corner of the library. They don't think I can hear? I'm about to march after them as Ryder and Lucas both walk away, but Everett, Axel, and Kanye, both slip individual fingers in my belt loops. What is with demons and belt loops?
