Chapter 9 - Details

"For the meeting."

Alexandra and Conrad both had a frustrated look on their faces and Lisa had worry etched on her features. I couldn't understand how I was supposed to get ready for this trial, the only evidence I had was my own words and those don't count in these types of meetings. Unless the second option they had mentioned to me in my cell could give me the advantage I needed to win.

I wanted to mention it to them but Alexandra cut me off before I could say anything to them.

"I know you're thinking of the second option ,but it won't do you any good if you have hard proof to give them a reason to keep you alive afterwards," holding the bridge of her nose in frustration and anger.

"And the only 'real' proof you have is your word and that is taken as bullshit you made up on the spot," Conrad said making air quotes while saying the word 'real' and then getting hit on the back of the head by Lisa.

"Language. I taught you better than that, Conrad Phillip Grace. But, yes, your own words don't get you very far," Lisa said then crossing her arms over her chest. After calling Conrad out for cursing.

I sigh getting as frustrated as everyone else and I run my hand through my hair, something I did when I was stressed. I look back at Alexandra which I caught staring at me and smiled at her, she quickly looked down, blushing after being caught.

Then I realized I didn't know what the second option was ,so I said, "To be honest, I don't even know what happens during the second option. All of you mention it, but no one told me what it includes."

Conrad and Lisa's eyes widened at what I said and Alexandra raised her head in realization of what was just said. Lisa and Conrad turned their heads in her direction and said in unison.

"You didn't tell him yet!?"

"Of course I haven't told him. I don't want him-- I don't want it to end up like last time," Alexandra changed mid-sentence and looked at them with a serious face, but there was a confusion in her eyes, as if she couldn't understand her own words.

She looked away again and leaned against the kitchen counter then gave a curt nod to Conrad which he understood. Then she stated to fiddle with a ring on her right thumb.

Conrad then started to explain," The second option is a death match. A prisoner against any member of the pack, usually the same gender, height, weight and streng. A fair opponent, but there are a few occasions where it differs. The match can only be won when one of the contenders are dead. And afterwards,if you survived which is rare, you are judge based on your reason for surival and evidence you brought forward."

He finished and there was a silence. I thought about the two and made a decision," I'll go with option two it's the only way we may be able to let me live."

"No, that's out of the question. I'm not letting you fight, judging by your looks you'll be getting one of our strongest warriors, from those who are volunteering to fight. Besides we don't know how your skills are after being in the cell," Alexandra's response led to an argument between her, me and Conrad. Fair points were made, but was rejected and curses flew between each sentence that was spoken.

Finally Lisa stopped the argument by saying,"Why don't you just tell the pack that the two of you are mates, won't they understand and drop the charges?"

"My thought exactly, we could just tell them and they'll drop everything against you," Alexandra looked me in the eye.

I shook my head and explained why we couldn't take the easy way," I want to earn their trust."

Alexandra's eyes widened and asked," What do you mean?"

"I mean, I don't want them to accept me because they have to because I'm their alpha's mate. I have to build trust. A pack's main priority is trust because they want a bond between them and their leaders. That's why we can't take the easy way," I fully explained and to my surprise Conrad backed me up.

"He's right,Alpha. There will be some who won't trust him even after you tell them that," he said standing up from his leaning position.

Alexandra sighed in recognition and said," You're probably right, but what if things go south and you loose or if you win what will you tell them? We don't have any evidence, we don't even know much about you."

"Except that you're an asshole with to much sarcasm for your own good, Conrad said which got me to give a small laugh and Alexandra smiled.

She has a beautiful smile.Why doesn't she smile more?

"If things don't go as planned and we don't have enough evidence to help me and we don't have another option, we can tell them," I said and they nodded.

Then Lisa said ," Now that we finally have a plan, we can have some breakfast. Come sit down. Conrad I made your favourite."

I quickly walked to Alexandra and asked her if we could talk privately somewhere, she nodded and led me out the back door into the garden.

Then I said," So now you want to keep me alive. And you want to tell everyone that we are mates. Yesterday you were still punching and looking at me with so much anger, but suddenly you just bail me out of prison and let me stay with Lisa. Why the sudden change of heart?"

She stayed quiet for a while before answering,"I did and said all of that because of what you told me. You said you'll wait for me and that you will always love me even though I didn't back. After what I did to you you held on to the hope that I would come to my senses. I've lost so much already I couldn't lose another important person, who was destined to be with me."

"Alexandra... I appreciate everything you have done to help, but to be honest, I'll just need time to fully forgive you. If that's alright with you?" I said sincerely.

"Of course, I'll give you the time you need, but you'll just have to give me the time to actually trust you enough to tell you everything and to warm up to you. Do we have a deal?" she said with a small smile.

I nodded smiling back at her then we started walking back then she said," I hope you have basic fighting skills, because I don't have much patience."

That made me chuckle and I responded," You'll be surprised."
