"Look who decided to show up." Gavin snaps as he sees Faith walking in.
"Look who decided to still be an asshole." She quips back before walking over to Hank and Connor.
Connor looks up when he hears her walk closer, questions in his eyes. "After. You can come over and I'll bring you back to Hank's afterwards." The swiftness and vagueness tips Hank of.
"Want to share your secret? Con has been nervous ever since he came back and became literal frigid when you walked in." Faith looks at Connor whom indeed looks frigid and nervous."Fowler knows something of you, doesn't he? He used it against you. I don't work with someone that has secrets, kid. So you better spill."
"Goddamn it Hank, no. Leave me alone. It's bad enough that Connor figured it out. And he is in the safe. You are not." It is out before she registers what she has said. "Shit.""Yeah kid, shit indeed. So after work at your place I presume?"
"Lewis, my office. Now!" is yelled through the bullpen.
"Don't think so Fowler. Leave me alone. You have my answer."
"In my office now or hand over your badge."
"One day... one day..." she grits her teeth and walks into the office.Inside the office, Fowler looks mad. "Don't you think for a second that this behaviour is tolerable." He starts.
"What you did was wrong too and you goddamn know it."
"You should have more respect for your superior."
"And you for your elders, Fowler. If you want to point out what I am, than you better not forget how old I am too. Respect is earned, not freely given. You better remember that."The door opens and Hank pops his head in the office. "We have a body. Female and brunette. She's right, there is a pattern. Now let the poor girl do her job and stop bullying her."
"You better be careful, Lewis."
"You too, Fowler. I wouldn't dare to sleep with closed eyes tonight. Never know who comes to claim their revenge."
"Don't you dare threaten me."
"Then don't threaten me. You're warned Fowler."Faith storms out the door, grabbing her jacket from her desk and throws Reed her keys. "You drive."
He looks bewildered. "Sure." Walking to the garage is done in a tense silence even Reed doesn't dare to break."I realise now that I have never seen you drive. What car am I handling?" Gavin tries to ask as gently as he can, not wanting to be at the other end of her wrath. "You'll be surprised. I paid a lot for it. You better feel special you can drive her!" Gavin looks around but only sees the self-driving cars and Hank's.
"Ever drove a sports car, Gavin?"
"No."
"Well, today you will. It's the black one around the corner."More eager, Gavin starts walking a bit faster. He turns the corner and looks at the black Lamborghini in front of him.
"You are kidding me, right?"
"Nope, now get in. I'm too pissed off to drive, but we have a crime scene to get to."The gleam in Gavin's delighted eyes, make it a little less of a worse day for her.
He drives careful, yet fast enough that it doesn't take long to end up on the crime scene.
"You can drive her back to the precinct when we are done here." She says as she takes the keys in case something comes up and she has to leave alone.
"Thank you for giving me this opportunity."
Gavin might be a douche at times, he knows when he has to be respectful.
She nods and they walk past the barricade.Connor and Hank are already present. Hank is pale, Connor looks wide eyed.
"Detectives, I am unsure if this is a good idea. She... It's not okay." Connor looks at both the female and male detective in front of him. Looking a little longer at Faith.
"I'm sure I can handle it, Connor, but thank you for the warning. It is appreciated."Faith walks around the corner inside the abandoned house. The scent attacks her nose, it's sweet – too sweet – and it activates her hunger. Yet she supresses it, kneeling down to investigate the mangled and bloody body in front of her.
She hears Gavin gag behind her, walking away.
Putting plastic gloves on, she investigates the cuts and infected wounds on her body. The victim is not dead long, still somewhat warm. Not yet in rigor mortis.Faith walks back outside where the lieutenant and detectives are waiting.
"She is killed not that long ago at this house. The infected wounds insinuate that she has been held captive for a while, probably elsewhere. They cut her throat and let her bleed out. That is the fatal wound. She is stabbed multiple times, after the cut on her throat. Her leg and hands are cut of after she died. I didn't find any evidence on her. I hope the coroner finds out more."
"How are you able to do this?" detective Reed asks.
"I've seen enough mangled bodies in my life. Another one doesn't bother me anymore."
The lie is clear in her voice, yet no one calls her out."What do we know about the victim?"
"Mrs Sophia Hewk. 28 years old. Married to Mr. Eric Hewk. He put her up as missing a month ago after she didn't come home after work. She was pregnant with their first born.""Shit." Faith curses, just now realising why her scent was that sweet. Goddamn she should've know.
"Indeed. Now, I am going to investigate the area, but I fear he is not here anymore." Hank says as he starts walking. Faith already knows he is not here anymore. There is no scent on the scene, which is not usual.
"I know enough, I'm going back."
"Of course. Can I ask you something detective?" Connor asks.
Faith throws Gavin her keys. "Start the car, it won't be long."
Eager the detective walks to the car.
"What time do you expect us tonight?"
"Whenever you and Hank are able. We will go to the precinct shortly, I'll drive home rather quickly. I'll be doing some paperwork there. Drop by whenever you two like. And take a car, not a cab. Just in case you feel like leaving soon."
Connor nods. "Thank you detective."
She nods and turns around. Walking to her car is the thing she focusses on. She gets in and lets Gavin drive.
