Chapter 2: Counterparts

Before going to work, Alex decided to visit her fiancé. She quietly sneaked into her office without her noticing and crept up behind her. "Boo!" she shouted and snaked her arms around the woman wearing a lab coat

"It's getting old Lex" Ysabelle responded while still scrolling through her tablet

"You didn't get scared, like even a little bit?" Alex asked seductively while planting small kisses on the woman's shoulder

"Maybe just a little bit" Ysabelle replied and turned to her with a smile. "Wait, don't you have work today?" she asked snaking her arms around her fiancés neck

"Yeah, I do. I have a meeting with the security department" said Alex and checked her watch "like right now" she said in panic "Shit"

"Language" Ysabelle warned

"I have to go. Let's meet for lunch?" said Alex

"I can't, I have surgery booked" Ysabelle is working at the Croft General Hospital owned by the Crofts, Alex's mom's side of the family.

"Dinner, then?" Alex asked while walking backwards

"Sure" she said with a smile

"I love you" Alex shouted while blowing kisses towards the woman standing by the door

"I love you too" Ysabelle replied with a smile while watching her fiancé disappear.

About forty-five minutes later "You're late" said Jocelyn, Alex's secretary/PA when she finally arrived.

"I know that" Alex replied fixing her navy blue blazer. She's not wearing her uniform today because she's not flying out.

"They're at conference room one" Jocelyn reminded

They went in together "Good morning everyone. Sorry I'm late, I had personal matters to attend to. Shall we begin?" she said clasping her hands together

Meanwhile, Jaime just finished her first lesson and now looking for the room for her next class. She was busy looking at her timetable when she bumped into someone making the other person fall. "Ouch" said a girl's voice

"I'm so sorry" Jaime responded and helped the girl with her books

"It's ok" the girl replied and looked into the person she bumped into

She met a pair of golden brown eyes "I-I'm really sorry" Jaime stuttered and helped the girl up

"It's ok, I'm fine. Thank you" she said, and Jaime gave her, her books back.

"Are you sure you're ok?" Jaime asked again

"Yes, I'm fine" the girl replied with a smile

"Uhm... so. Uhm... I'll see you around then. Again, I'm really sorry" apologised Jaime for the nth time while giving the girl an apologetic smile and walked off before embarrassing herself again. But then she remembered she's lost so, she turned to the girl again "Actually, uhm... can you help me find room. I'm so sorry"

"Back so soon?" the girl joked "No, it's ok. Which room was it?" Jaime showed her, her timetable. "Oh, it's on the east building. I'm actually going there too"

"Oh cool" Jaime replied shyly scratching the back of her head.

"I'm Claire by the way. I'm a student council member so, it's actually my job to show freshies around"

"I'm-" started Jaime but she was interrupted

"Jaime Pendleton, I know" the girl replied

"H-how'd?"

Claire gave her a friendly smile "Everyone knows who you are. Who doesn't? Youngest daughter of business tycoon Nicolai Pendleton and world-known surgeon Sofia Croft, yeah pretty sure I've heard about you" she replied.

Jaime just nodded sheepishly

"So, this is your room" she paused by the door "Good luck newbie"

"T-thanks" Jaime replied

"No problem. Just ask me if you need anything else" said Claire then left before giving Jaime another smile.

Ghaille saw her older sister Brix by the lockers looking like she's hiding or spying on someone. But she didn't care and just pulled her by the collar and dragged her to her next class. Brix is taking Law after changing from Business Management.

"Did you see that?" Brix asked the other girl

"I don't care" Ghaille replied

When they got in the room, Ghaille let go of Brix. Brix then went up to the back of the class where her friends are leaving Ghaille who also went to her classroom "Why do you always have grand entrance?" said someone behind Ghaille making her turn

"Good morning to you too, Naomi" replied Ghaille flashing a fake smile

"Can you tell your minions at the gate to stop blocking the driveway?" Naomi responded bumping into Ghaille's shoulder as she walks by

"Why? Are you jealous that I have fans?" Ghaille teased turning to the other girl

"Whatever" Naomi replied rolling her eyes before taking her seat.

"You know for the two smartest students in this school you two are like kids" said Rhynne

"Shut up" said Ghaille to her best friend and took a seat.

At Brix's room, there's a man maybe in his fifties came in the room and set his things on the desk "Ok class, before we start I'd like to introduce a new student" said Harrison and motioned to the door

A girl wearing a burgundy Tokyo long-sleeve cropped top under an oversized brown coat with a simple grey skinny jean paired with black ankle boots walked in the room and stopped by the teacher

Brix at the back has her mouth agape as the girl introduced herself "Hello, everyone. My name is Ember May McGregor, but you can call me Em instead. Nice meeting you and I'm honoured to be studying alongside you all. Thank you"

"Thank you, Miss McGregor, please a take seat" said Harrison and as the girl made her way to a vacant seat. There were murmurs in the class, coming especially from the back

"I call dibs" said Brix

"Oh, come on man, you always get first dibs" said Ian on of Brix's friends

"Don't care, I called dibs first"

"No fair, dude" The last part Brix didn't hear because her attention was with the girl on the front.
