Chapter 18: Reconciliation

Ghaille sat quietly in the student council room trying to focus on her work. And on the other side of the room is Naomi who was also trying her best not to look at the other girl. They both feel the intensity in the air, but they didn't bother addressing it.

They heard a knock from the door "Come in!" they both shouted making them feel embarrassed for some reason.

"I'll get it" said Ghaille standing up from her seat

But Naomi countered "No, I'll get it" so they both rushed to the door

"I told you I got it" said Ghaille

"No, I got it" replied Naomi. So, they pushed each other towards the door.

The door opened and Bianca a member of the council saw the pair in a weird position while trying to get to the door. The two composed themselves "Bianca, what is it?" asked the President

"Uhm..." the girl by the door looked from one girl to the other, then back to Ghaille "I was just going to submit my report about the food and drinks for the inter-u"

"Ah... yes. Yes. Of course, come in" Ghaille invited the girl in

Bianca hesitated "No, it's ok. I can come by later. You two seemed busy"

"No, no. Come in" Naomi replied.

After Bianca's presentation, she had to go back to supervising the students "thank you for that" said Ghaille walking the girl to the door "just let us know if you need anything"

"It's no bother at all" Bianca smiled.

"Alright take care" Ghaille bid the girl and closed the door

Meanwhile, while the pair was talking Naomi kept rolling her eyes. She doesn't know why, but she felt so irritated by the 'intruder'. The way she talks to Ghaille, the way she laughs, it bothers her for some weird reason.

When Ghaille closed the door, she turned to the other girl on her laptop "If you're done flirting, why don't we get back to work" said Naomi without looking up

That confused Ghaille because she thought they were ok now. "I-is everything ok?" asked Ghaille cautiously

Naomi turned to the girl and gave her a sharp smile "Yes, why?" she replied "I just want to get this over and done with so I can go home. I don't want to get stuck with you here again"

"I thought we're g—"

Naomi stood up from her seat "we are good, as colleagues that is. You're the president, I'm the Vice-president we have a good working relationship. Maybe even academic rivals. But nothing more" she packed her things. Before she could leave, she turned back "if I missed something, I'll just email them to you" she said and left leaving Ghaille dazed and confused

When she got home, she went by the pool and sat there thinking about what Naomi told her 'we are good, as colleagues that is. You're the president, I'm the Vice-president we have a good working relationship. Maybe even academic rivals. But nothing more' "But nothing more" she repeated the last words. She took a seat back and sighed

Alex who was passing by saw her "that was a deep sigh" she said "do you want to talked about it?"

Ghaille was surprised. When she saw who it was, she stood up and tried to walk away but her older sister stopped her.

Alex sighed "we may not have the best relationship, but you're still my sister" she said still holding on to Ghaille's arm

"Since when do you care about me?" Ghaille grabbed her arm back

"Who said I stopped caring?" said Alex turning to her sister "Sit"

Ghaille didn't know what to do, she didn't know how to react. It's been ages since she talked to her eldest sibling. For Ghaille, Alex is the epitome of a human being. She's smart, she's stunning, she's just the perfect person and that kinda put a toll on her other siblings. For example, Brix. At first she tried everything to reach Alex's level but she couldn't, everything she did wasn't enough. So, she started rebelling.

For Ghaille, she didn't want to end up like Brix. So, she kept pushing herself to be on top of everything, so that one day, maybe one day, she'll surpass Alex. "What?" Alex asked her because Ghaille was just staring at her.

Ghaille shook her head

"So, tell me what happened?" asked Alex "is it about Naomi?"

Ghaille looked at her confusedly "how'd you know?" she asked

"Brix might've told me some stuff going on between you two" answered Alex "So, tell me whats bothering you. I might be able to help"

Ghaille just turned to her older sister confusedly. She didn't know what to say. She felt a bit weird like she's talking to the president or the Queen of England "I-uhm..." she cleared her throat "So, Naomi and I got locked inside a room..." she started

While Ghaille was talking, Alex felt somehow happy that finally, her little sister is talking to her. So she smiled

"Then when the lights turned off, she hugged me and..." Alex waited for her to finish "I felt like I was going to explode. Like it felt nice and right. So, I hugged her back to try and comfort her. Everything just... I don't know how to explain it"

Alex shook her head "So, what happened after that?"

"Nothing, we just sat there. No one said a word. So, we just sat there, in silence"

"Hmm" Alex hummed "so, why do you look down?"

"It's just she told me this afternoon that we're nothing and that we're just 'colleagues' and 'nothing more'" replied Ghaille "I don't know but, when she said that, I felt hurt"

Alex scooted closer towards Ghaille "Ok. So what do you want her to say?"

"I-I don't know" Ghaille scratched the back of her neck "For now, I just want us to be ok. Like not fighting and stuff"

Alex smiled "then why don't you do that?"

"I don't know how to do that" Ghaille replied "It's like everything I do is annoying to her"

"Hmm..." Alex thought for a moment "why don't you lay off a bit from her"

"What?!" Ghaille asked

"Chill!" Alex replied "It's just a cooling period. In that way you wont annoy her. And also, let's see if ignoring her has an effect on you"

"What do you mean?"

"You'll see" Alex smiled. "Wait, how did you two get stuck in that room?"

"I don't know, we were just working and then we just cant open the door like it's been locked from the outside" Ghaille replied

"Interesting" said Alex

"Now, this is an interesting view" said Jaime as she approached the pair by the pool "Alex and Ghaille in the same space"

The duo smiled "Anyways, Jay. Why are you late?" asked Ghaille

"She had a date" replied Alex grinned
