Marching to war was something I never thought I would do again

Marching to war was something I never thought I would do again. And marching into a huge sandstorm was something I hoped I would never have to do again after last time. But with someone like Octavia in charge, I knew there was no changing her mind. No matter how many times myself and Clarke tried to tell her how bad the sandstorms could get, she didn't want to listen. She believed Wonkru could fight anything. And while I admired Wonkru's loyalty to their leader, she was only sending them into a death trap.

"Marcus will be fine. He's with Madi." I looked to my right as Clarke sat down on a log beside me. I squinted my eyes a little, trying to see her in the darkness of the night sky.

"I know. I'm not worried about him, I know he's capable of handling himself." I told her, recalling in my thought the countless hours of fight training I had taught him.

"You're worried about Bellamy." Clarke stated as I bit my lip and nodded.

"How do I tell him, Clarke?" I asked quietly, making sure no one else could over-hear us. "He's moved on, how do I tell him he has a son to someone he doesn't love anymore?" I shook my head slightly and sighed.

"He may have moved on Sawyer," Clarke spoke as she looked at me with stern eyes. "But don't think for a second that he doesn't love you anymore." I looked away from my Clarke, my chest tightening slightly. "He moved on because he thought he had to. But that doesn't mean that he won't love Marcus."

"I know." I breathed, looking back up to her and nodding.

"Hey," I moved my eyes to my left, Bellamy's boots appearing beside me as my eyes travelled up to the rations he held out towards me. "You haven't eaten all day. Here, have mine." He spoke as he sat down beside me.

I soon heard Clarke's footsteps leaving as I took the packet from Bellamy and sent him a small smile, eating the horrible tasting rations.

"Was it hard?" Bellamy spoke softly as I glanced up at him. "Surviving down here?"

"No harder than how I imagined surviving up there." I told him, offering the packet to him as he accepted.

"It wasn't so bad, Monty's algae farm really came along." He said with a light-heartedness to his voice. I felt a small smile creep onto my lips as we looked each other. Bellamy finally chuckled, making me do the same in response.

"Clarke told me the two kids you were with, Madi and Marcus, you found at Shallow Valley?" He questioned as I felt my body stiffen.

"You met them?" I asked quietly as Bellamy nodded. "Did they say anything?"

"No, they took us to you and Clarke." He explained as I felt my nerves calm.

"They made it easier. Me and Clarke felt like we actually had a purpose other than just surviving." I told him with a small smile, my heart aching to see my son and Madi again.
