[Yes, I'm coming but only for an hour or so, I need to prepare dinner] Xiao Fei replied.

[God, you're too housewife! Fine, see you tomorrow] Yeh Zi texted back.

"Xiao Fei! Dinner's ready," Yi Jie said and helped Xiao Fei up to the dining table.

For now, he gets to enjoy dinner with his family.

"Yeh Zi, stop pushing me front, what's wrong with you?" Xiao Fei and Yeh Zi arrived in front of the family restaurant but Yeh Zi made Xiao Fei go in first.

"Well, I'm nervous and you're my best friend so by default you have to become my shield," Yeh Zi said, hiding behind as if she is scared of something, or someone.

"Yeh Zi!! You are here!" Chow Shou Ann came running out. He looked really happy to see his crush coming.

"Happy birthday Shou Ann, may this odd be forever in your favor," Xiao Fei said, he passed his small present, suddenly stepped aside and pushed his BFF front.

"THANK YOU XIAO FEI and you too," Shou Ann smiled.

"Yeah, happy birthday to you. Got you a book so don't expect anything else," Yeh Zi said.

"It's ok, all that matters is you are here. Come on in! Steven and the rest are here too," Shou An said, took Yeh Zi's hand and dragged her in. Xiao Fei followed behind.

Shou An lead them into a private room with only a few familiar faces. Other guests are mostly Shou An's high school mates, a bunch of men from his previous volleyball club. And then Steven.

Xiao Fei met Steven's gaze so he nodded as a greeting. Steven nodded back. It was awkward considering only the day before yesterday Steven met Yi Jie and Yi Jie warned him about going to near Xiao Fei.

The birthday party promptly started with Shou Ann thanking everyone for coming and then a centerpiece birthday cake was brought out. Xiao Fei started enjoying himself by taking photos at the corner of his best friend with Shou Ann who didn't let go of her.

Xiao Fei knew even if Yeh Zi denied it, she likes Shou Ann as much but for reasons unknown to even Xiao Fei, she still hasn't accept Shou Ann as her boyfriend.

"Oh hey, Fei Sheng Je, didn't know you will bother showing up," Xiao Fei turned to the voice.

Hunt.

Hunt is Steven's best friend and neighbors from childhood, shared the same elective classes with Xiao Fei and is more outspoken especially when it comes to the matter of his best friend.

Xiao Fei nodded in greeting.

"Anyway, just want to thank you, I mean, your hubby, professor Yi Jie for crushing my best friend's heart," Xiao Fei looked at Hunt, guilty.

"Don't get me wrong, it's not sarcasm or anything. At least that poor silly can move on now. Gotta go, see ya," Hunt said and left to take his seat besides Steven who didn't dare to look at Xiao Fei anymore.

"Is that Hunt bullying you? Let me get him," Yeh Zi appeared. Xiao Fei stopped her.

"Yeh Zi, don't. He didn't do anything. You should just enjoy the party. I got to go now," Xiao Fei said.

"So soon!?"

"Yes, told you I gotta go home early to make dinner for my king and princess," Xiao Fei reminded, Yeh Zi shook her head.

"Fine Cinderella, go. Go back to your housework. I'll see you tomorrow. I'll let Shou Ann know," Yeh Zi said, hugging her best friend.

Xiao Fei took his bag and slipped away from the crowd. While it's only almost 5pm, the sky's turned cloudy, heavy with rain. Xiao Fei walked a short distance to his usual supermarket for grocery shopping.

On the way back, he felt droplets of water. Knowing he should go faster, he decided to skip the garden and go through the quiet and very bushy area.

As he walked, he suddenly felt a presence. As if someone was following him.

It must be my imagination, Xiao Fei told himself but when a loud twig snapped behind him, he was firm someone was following him.

Soon he began to run. Ahead of him is a forked path.
