I Should Know By Now

Your name still sounds like a broken hallelujah and birds were singing sweet songs but you've plastered the crack right back up and I simply handed you blade and the sunlight is gone and I can barely even remember the way it felt on my sun-starved skin and the colors are dancing before my eyes in the pitch black and the air is difficult to inhale and I miss you too terribly to even dream of another time.

My body still screams your name when my heart clenches and the tears pricked my eyes. You are the first face to appear at the mere mention of my despair. Yet I still smile at the thought of you, the memories that linger in the back of my mind when rain drips down the window and it seems the world is swallowing itself in a blanket of misery.

I can breathe without you, my love, but, oh, it is so much harder.
