y/n: "Hello?"
mom: "y/n... hi."
y/n: "Hi Mom."
mom: "I'm... I'm glad you answered."
y/n: "Is everything alright?"
mom: "Yes. I mean... I wanted to see if we could give our dinner another try."
y/n: "Mom..."
mom: "I want you to come over an hour earlier though, so that you can help me move some stuff."
y/n: "...some stuff?"
mom: "Some of your dad's stuff. We're going to move it out of the basement."
y/n: "...really?"
mom: "Really. y/n... since the dinner, [stepdad] had a talk with me and made me realize a lot of things. It's not right for me to hide all of your father's belongings. I... I miss him, too."
y/n: "You do?"
mom: "Of course I do. I loved him for over thirty years. I still love him. I'm sorry... sorry that I hurt you this way."
y/n: (breathes)
mom: "But I understand if you still need space, so we can do the dinner two weeks from now, if you want. Or whenever you want. Whenever you're ready. I just want you to remember that this will always be your home. And..." (breathes) "...whenever you want to come back, you can walk right through that front door."
y/n: "Mom."
mom: "Mhm?"
y/n: "I'm sorry. I love you."
mom: "I love you too, honey."
