23: Unbreakable Love

(Adrien age 3)

"Gabriel please."
"I don't want to hear it, Emile!"

The shouting of the couple caught the attention of a young boy who was supposed to be asleep.
"Mommy? Daddy?"
The two adults looked down at the young golden-haired child.
"Oh, honey-"
"Why are you not in bed?"
"I-I'm sowwy daddy. I wanted to see if you and mamma were ok."
Gabriel huffed before pushing the boy towards the door.
But he pushed too hard causing the little boy to trip and fall. Immediately he began to cry.
"Oh, my baby! Gabriel what is wrong with you?"
The two continued to argue forgetting their child was hurt. The little boy scurried away, his tears leaving a trail of sadness. He jumped onto the stool in his bathroom and got a bandaid. "Ooh, kitty paws!"

~~~~~~~~~~Adrien age 8~~~~~~~~~~

"Ugh, what are you wearing?"
"I wanted to wear the kitty shirt mom gave me."
"No. Go change."
Adrien miserably walked back up to his room. Of course, his father hated the shirt, he hated anything that HE didn't consider proper.
Minutes later the boy came downstairs with a white button-up shirt. When he was outside his mother frowned.
"Hunny? I thought you were going to wear your kitty shirt?"
Adrien turned back to his father who glared. "I just didn't feel like it..." Slowly Adrien got into the car with his head down. Emilie looked back at her husband and mouthed. 'We are going to talk'
~~~~~~~~~~Later that night~~~~~~~~~~

"He's your son Gabriel!"
"And that's why he needs to dress proper!"
"He needs to be allowed to dress however he wants!"
*Slap!
"*Gasp* mommy..."
"Look um I'm sorry I-"
"I'm leaving..."
"Wait Emilie! It was just an accident!"
"No, it wasn't. Just like you abusing our son is an accident!"
"I'm just shaping him into a man fit for society."
"There you go again with the society stuff!"
"He's not good enough for the world yet. He needs to stay in until he's ready!"
"Good heavens, Gabriel! I can't believe I married you! Greed has taken over you!"
"Don't say that! I'm still the man you married! The man you love!"
"No. You aren't. Yes, I married a man but it wasn't you. You are not my husband. I'm leaving tonight."

"Natalie"
"Yes, sir?"
"Adrien is from here on not allowed out unless for business. Is that clear?"
"Yes sir..."
~~~~~~~~With Adrien and Emile~~~~~~~~

"Mom don't go!"
"I'm sorry my kitten."
"Take me with you!"
"I can't. But I want to tell you something first. A bit of advice if you will."
Emile kneeled down to her son and looked into his eyes.
"Find someone who will love you eternally and never will change. They will be your partner, friend, lover and soulmate. Cherish them, Adrien. Never let them go.
For love is a tricky thing and not something you can easily receive. Be careful my little one and remember to keep everyone safe. No matter who they are or what they are to you. Promise?"
"I promise mommy."
"Goodbye, my little kitten."
"Goodbye, mommy..."

And with that Emile Agreste disappeared into the night.
