It's Not Awkward Anymore. At Least, Not For Me.

21 1 1

It seems I am always heading towards the silver screen
On a date.
Another one was today with a new boy
And I didn't need to worry this time.
"I'm sorry, it's just I never have really --"
I look into his eyes and his goofy smile
"--liked anyone before, not really."

And he just nods and I stare for a little while.
He sips on black tea.
I lick the whipped cream from the top of my mocha.

And while there is an awkward pause
It doesn't feel as awkward as it would be with him.
Don't think about him, Esperanza.

This boy is different.
He likes you.

So I start talking.
We talk and talk and talk
Then it's time to go to the theater.
And after awwing after animation and CGI
And fawning over Ryan Reynolds
The rain starts again and we run to his car laughing.

Traffic is bad and we're stuck in awkward silence.
I could have kissed him then.
I could have kissed him during the movie
During the awkward coffee and tea ordering
But I didn't.

I don't have to.

I think he could see that I love him without have to show  him.

I think that's why I love him.
