The Contract

Mrs Ricci grabs my hand and begins to rub it gently. More contact than I have ever had with my own mother. She was always too dedicated to obeying my father she didn't have time for her children. "Dear Bella you have been blessed with a child I hear congratulations to you my darling how are you feeling?" She says happily.

"I'm good Mrs Ricci it's just a shock is all," I say.

"Listen now Bella I understand why you don't talk to me in regards to Luca but just know that no matter what you tell me I will not dislike you because of it you have to remember I am married to a mafia man and I was also born in to this life to be married of to someone I did not know I am also his mother and I know he is stubborn and likes to distance himself from others so just know you can always talk to me" I look at her as tears prick my eyelids.

"Thank you Mrs Ricci he just angered me I mean we just found out I am having our first child and he did not seem happy he just said that we were at least obeying the rules of the contract because I am pregnant within a year all he cares about is that contract" I say with distaste.

"Listen Bella his father was the very same all the men of this world are they don't show emotion like normal men do they think it shows weakness but in reality it takes a real man to show his emotions and I know sometimes all you want is to be held close and for them to whisper everything is going to be okay but when that doesn't happen you have to stand tall fix that crown and tell your self everything is going to be okay now wash your face get something comfy on you don't need to be wearing that tight dress and come help me with dinner" I nod and walk to my closet.

I dress in sweat pants and a jumper. I wash my face and join Mrs Ricci and Angel. We walk down stairs and in to the kitchen. We're making lasagne for dinner which is one of my favourites. The Ricci family have a chef just like my family does but tonight Mrs Ricci told him to take the night of as she wanted us all to spend time together. I think really it was her trying to cheer me up and look after me which made me feel happy.

We laugh and talk as we make dinner. Me and Angel set the table and we then help Asmara bring dinner in. She calls everyone for dinner and Luca Fedele Lorenzo and Dante walk in with there father. They are all congratulating Luca and my face grows red. We all sit and Mrs Ricci gives everyone a plate filled with lasagne. I slowly eat little bites until I feel like my stomach is ready to accept food.

Mr Ricci stands and raises his glass of whiskey on the rocks. "Well I would like to say congratulations to my son Luca and my new daughter Bella on the news that there to become parents we look forward to joining you on this journey and may God look after you both," He says in my direction.

"CONGRATULAZIONI" Everyone shouts and I smile. "Thank you, everyone, we are looking forward to the future," Luca says and I agree.

As we finish dinner I actually feel happier than I have since this marriage begun. Maybe it started out as just a contract but just maybe hopefully we can make it a family-like Mr and Mrs Ricci did.
