It was about noon when I awoken. Which is weird. My mom usually wakes me up at 10 on the weekends for breakfast.

"Mom? Dad? Hello?" The House was empty.

I was alone.

Where are they? They're off on the weekends...

I walked outside and down the street. No one was outside. I didn't didn't even hear birds chirping.

I was alone.

I knocked on my neighbors doors. I rung the doorbells. No one answered. A little freaked, I got my keys and drove into town.

That's when I really started to panic. There were cars parked in the streets. Empty. Abandoned. Doors left often. Stores left unattended.

And I stood there. Alone.

"HELLO?!!" I screamed. "Can anyone hear me?!!!"

"Is anybody there?!" Yelled a voice that's wasn't mine.

I ran out of the store I was in and followed the voice.

"Hello?!!"

"Yes, hello?! Who's there?!"

A boy came into view. Slender yet muscular. Teen. My age.

I was no longer alone.

"Hey I recognize you. You're in my English class right? Mike?"

"Mark." He corrected.

"I'm—

"Lucy. Everybody knows who you are."

Geez. I'm not that popular.

"Do you know where everyone is?"

He shook his head. "I woke up to this ghost town. I was about to lose it, until I heard your voice."

"So why is everyone gone and we're still here?"

He shrugged and then squinted at something behind me.

I turned to see a bright blue light shining into the sky. "What is that?"

"Looks like it's coming from the library."

"The library?"

"Follow me." He walked past me.

"Wait, I have a car we can drive there."

The library too was deserted. We didn't even bother to call out.

"That's odd."

"What?"

"The lights coming from the screen."

"Does it not normally?"

"No. I've never seen that in here before."

"Oh. I've never been in here."

"Shocker."

I scowl at him.

We walked closer to the big odd monitor. Mark turned it on and the screen came to light.

"Hello." Said an robotic voice. "If you are seeing this screen congratulations. You two have been selected to begin the new world."

"What?" We uttered together.

"The life you knew is gone. Your family is gone. Your friends are gone."

We looked at each other with sadness in our eyes.

"You are... alone."
