honestly can't believe i hadn't written this idea yet.

Life honestly couldn't be any better for Hyunjin.

Work was going well for him, Jeongin was getting straight A's in all his subjects and not even ten minutes ago did Hyunjin put him to bed with no arguments.

So, yeah. Life was pretty good.

And Hyunjin was currently relaxing on the - too small - sofa in his living room, scrolling aimlessly through his phone when he suddenly heard a small sniffle from the doorway. Turning his head to the left, his eyebrows creased in worry when he saw Jeongin standing feebly behind the entryway to the living room, body shaking.

"Baby, what's wrong?" Hyunjin asked softly, putting his phone down and sitting up on the couch. From this angle, he could see the tears on Jeongin's face reflected in the light of the living room and Hyunjin stood up to make his way over to Jeongin cautiously. "Bubba, what happened?"

When Hyunjin stopped in front of him, Jeongin looked up at his caregiver and whined high in his throat before breaking out into tears.

"Hey, hey, angel. Come on," Hyunjin cooed, picking Jeongin up and placing him on his hip. "Don't cry, baby. You're safe now, Daddy's got you."

Jeongin clung to Hyunjin like his life depended on it, and didn't let go even when Hyunjin sat down with the younger boy in his lap. He was shaking like a leaf in Hyunjin's hold and the older male stuck his bottom lip out in a small pout at seeing his baby so sad.

"Baby boy, calm down, you're ok," he shushed gently, holding Jeongin's head close to his chest. Jeongin continued to sob for a bit longer until he felt something throbbing against his temple and quietened for a moment to try and listen to what it was.

Hyunjin stroked his baby's hair as he listened to his heartbeat, the slow thrumming calming him down considerably.

"Good boy," he cooed softly as Jeongin sniffled. "Can you tell Daddy what made you so upset now, angel?"

"There was a m-monster, Daddy," Jeongin hiccuped. "A-And he took Daddy away fwom me s-so I was awone."

Jeongin was beginning to get himself worked up again, and Hyunjin was quick to shush him.

"Daddy's right here, though; isn't he, baby boy?" Hyunjin asked. "Right here!"

Jeongin nodded as he reached for Hyunjin's hands, not having to wait long for Hyunjin to hold his baby's hands tightly. Jeongin's hands were near enough frozen and Hyunjin rubbed them between his own palms to warm them up for Jeongin.

"Daddy will never leave you alone, Innie," he reassured, kissing Jeongin's forehead.

"Never, Daddy?" Jeongin asked through a sob and Hyunjin smiled down at the boy in his lap.

"Never ever, baby."
