Water

The water ripples into small waves
The sunlight bounced off the water
In rays
I float in the endless water
The soothing, cool water
I sink to the bottom and look up
My hands try to grasp at the light
That beams down at me
But cannot grab it
The clear, beautiful water
The bubbles I blew from my mouth
Race to the top
The shining bubbles, floating

And for awhile I stare
At the sight of nobody
But the water
And the sunlight
And the rippling effect of my movements
For awhile,
I'm fine
And the water moulds to my body
And if I don't move
It feels like I'm nothing
Floating in nothing
And if I just stay here
I'll be nothing

But I felt the pounding urge to breathe
It's funny
I feel most at peace here
But if I stay too long
I can't breathe
Suffocating
Body convulsing
Lungs gasping for an ounce of air
And the deathly thumping in my head
To go to the surface
Just to reach the surface with my hands
My body moves by itself
Desperate, my legs kick of the bottom
And I break the surface.

But as my heart settles
I'll do it again
