Zhan's mansion

"Brother, can you give me some more money for this month's allowance?"

Xiao Zhan stopped flipping the newspaper and tilted his head to look at his pleading brother, "It depends on what you're gonna do with it."

Jian beamed, kneeling beside Zhan, excitedly placing his phone on top of Zhan's newspaper, "I want to buy a ticket for this motorcycle race!"

Xiao Zhan tilted his head a bit more, looking confused, thinking, Is his brother aspiring to be a racer?

"Yuan said Brother Yi Bo is participating! If he wins this one, he can join the professional level competitions! I have no doubt he will win and will soon be famous! Isn't it good to be acquainted with famous people?!"

The last sentence didn't seem right. But it might just be an unintentional blurt of a young boy, idolizing someone.

"So will you give me money?" Jian repeated.

Zhan propped his paper on the table and faced his brother, sighing, "If you pass all the exams this week."

"Really?!" Jian wasn't expecting a recompense for the money, but he has always been good at his studies and hasn't failed any tests so far, so it was actually his brother telling him, 'Yes. He will give him money.'

With this, Jian ran back to his room and instantly dialled Yuan's number, telling him he will be watching the race with him.

The Race

Xiao Zhan bought 2 tickets. One for his brother, and one for...himself?

He keeps on pondering why he had to come as well. His usual self will say it is rather more enjoyable to have a cup of tea at home, than go outside on a sunny Saturday. But there's something at the back of his mind, urging him to come and watch the match.

Moments pass, the teams and staffs are getting ready for the race. The crowd is placing their bets as well. Jian wanted to put a bet on Yi Bo's name, but of course he doesn't have the luxury to afford it. So he just spread good words about him towards the people around their seat.

When one wanted to place a bet on Wang Yi Bo, the bookie asked him to give his bet to someone else, as Wang Yi Bo won't be attending the event.

"What did you say?" Jian stood up, shocked from what he heard. He is sure Yi Bo is part of the competitors' list.

"He is not here. See his place in there?" Pointing on an empty space below. "There's no one in there. Earlier, the crews were there preparing, but they have left. The competition is about to start, even if he and his crew shows up in the next 10 minutes, he won't be ready by then."

Jian was devastated. He was hopeful and expectant to see his brother's friend win such a big event, but all those hopes and expectations are now a blur.

Zhan placed a hand on his shoulder, and gently pushed him back in his seat.

"This can't be! Last time I talked to brother Yi Bo, he said he'll definitely win it!" He bowed his head seemingly pondering of whether to stay or just leave. Suddenly, he ransacked his pockets to find his phone and dialled a number. After a heart thumping minute of trying to connect, a lazy voice answered, "H-hello?"

Jian put the call in loud speaker so Zhan can hear the conversation as well. "Brother Yi Bo, where are you?!"

"Ahmmm. Hospi-tal?" the voice still sounds lazy and a bit slurry, as if he had just woken up.

"Hospital?! What happened?!" Jian looked at his brother, looking distressed.

"Don't worry kid, it's just a...hmm...a sprain! I fell off the stairs from excitement. Ha-ha-ha---Ouch! How can you hit your older brother!" It seems his phone has dropped and there was commotion on the other line, there were thumping noises (someone hitting someone) and muffled struggles before Yuan shouted from the other line, "What sprain can give you 4 hours worth of surgery?! And leaving you bed bound! How can you still laugh?! Don't you know how worr--" the call suddenly dropped as more struggling and probably wrestling between the Wang brothers happens.

Zhan and Jian looked at each other, worried and doubting, 'Is it really just a sprain?'

It was Zhan who initiated to move. "Let's go."

'Go where?' Jian thought, but his thoughts are a mess, so he just followed his brother to the car. He isn't sure where they are going, but sure that it isn't their way home.

After Xiao Zhan's few red-light beating driving madness, the car halted at a hospital.

"Do you think they're here?" Jian wondered. How could his brother know which hospital Yi Bo is in, without asking the person himself? 'Gut feeling?'
