Fear

Fear. It was by far one of the child's strongest emotions. Curled up in a ball, hiding from the world in a corner was how they spent their days. Anytime they felt anything else was an odd occurrence, and when they did feel happiness, sadness, anger or any other emotion they would soon be overridden by fear. Those around them knew that and used their knowledge of the powerful emotion to manipulate the child. If they didn't want to do it, their fears would be fed, and if they did what they were told, they were granted happiness. When it comes down to it, they were purely motivated and controlled by their never-ending fears.
