Holding a smile in place was tiring when all I wanted to do was to be anywhere else,

lias friends sat opposite lia and I,

Lia had dragged me to her section of the palace today to meet her friends, they were nice enough and I had managed to stay quiet unless when absolutely necessary

"so kiara " I looked up at the blonde girl, she had been quiet most of the time, but her eyes, they said alot and I knew instantly that I wouldn't like her.

"don't you think having a job as a palace maid would have been more suitable?" the room of chattering girls went quiet and I raised an eyebrow

"more suitable? " I asked staring at her.

"rase don't be rude " another girl said and the rase girl rolled her eyes, lia was looking between us frantically and her third friend looked amused.

"you're a woman, do you really think you're supposed to protect the king, I don't even know how you made it " she said in a voice that almost sounded bored and I resisted the urge to roll my eyes for poor lias sake,

she looked frantic enough already,

she really wanted us to get along, but I'm not her friend, maybe in another world that isn't built on my lies and where I'm not trying to murder her sovereign.

I looked rase in the eye, small smile on my face

"I didn't grow up with such believes, I'm more than capable of taking one or two heads off, I would be happy to show you one day, since you're wondering how I became an elite " I said smiling,

her eyes widened so much I thought they would pop, I heard one of them snicker and the one who looked amused earlier was grinning widely.

Lia looked scandalised and part of me felt sorry for not just letting it go, but I had a thing for not letting people walk all over me.

The girl sputtered abruptly stood up, glared at us all and left,

lias other two friends immediately started laughing

"she's gonna be on edge for days " she said inbetween bouts of laughter

" you my dear are one cool lady " the amused one said,  I looked over at Lia and shrugged apologetically, she broke into a small smile

" I guess she did deserve it " lia said and the three of them started laughing,

I smiled and resisted the urge to start laughing, if life wasn't so complicated, I might have had this.

"seriously uncle? " I asked as uncle and I walked down to his chambers,

"when you said you'd handle it I thought you meant lock him up and question him till he tells us what he knows " I said trying not to sigh in frustration,

"patience nephew, we can learn more from having him followed and watched for now,  if he really has anything to do with this then he'll probably take his own life like the men you encountered in the southern cities if we try to question him "

uncle said and I sighed, he had a point, but just watching and waiting wasn't my strong point,

"in due time nephew " he said, hands on my shoulder,

"uncle " I started and stopped when I heard giggling.

The girls responsible for the sound came into view and my eyes landed on the blue eyed one, kiara.

Lia had been laughing at her own joke as we made our way back to our room, her friends were nice enough, except for that resa girl,

The thought of how normal this all seemed and how my life was anything but made me want to laugh,  Lia had stopped rambling and I heard her gasp before standing still, I looked up, about to ask her what was wrong
