Chapter Ten

Dong Hua

I knew the demons were asking for trouble when they attacked us and I knew I had to go to the ghost land to prevent them from coming to heaven directly, I needed to put XiaoBai into safety then go to the ghost land. Wang Lee isn't really one of the smartest people, I wasn't too worried about him but I knew he would be prepared. I dropped XiaoBai to Yang Yang knowing that she would be safe, I gave him a warning look she cannot be anywhere near me, I sent a message to Yuka the third prince to tell the other high gods. As I had anticipated Wang Lee was prepared for my arrival and it was fine until she showed up, I felt her presence even before she made herself known and I was pissed but at the same time I was happy. I knew it was a long shot of telling her to stay at the palace even I knew that it was an impossibility, when she came and fought next to me my heart was in my mouth I was nervous for her but she seemed to be coping well and when she stabbed Wang Lee I knew that she's the one I've been waiting for. We fought for a little while and the she transformed to a spiritual fox, my world and my heart stopped! XiaoBai is my little fox! I thought to myself, I was suddenly feeling anxious when she blew that fire and those fireballs I was scared that she would cause some serious damage to herself as her magic and spiritual power were already low. After she had wiped out all the demon soldiers she transformed back but she was no longer stable, she was weak the purple veins had marred her skin and they were darker than before she was slipping into unconsciousness  without being aware, after we had subdued Wang Lee the other high gods came to take over. I went to catch her before she fell down, she was quite exhausted and I could see it in her eyes she wanted to sleep but I couldn't let her sleep. When she closed her eyes I shook her a little. "XiaoBai stay awake." She made a sound letting me know she wasn't happy this, she slowly opened her eyes and yet again she looked at me and smile. I wanted to take her back to heaven but there would be to many eyes besides I don't want anyone to see her, so I took her to where I was born. "Your majesty." She said in a very weak voice. "Mm XiaoBai." She gave me a weak smile again. "You're hurt." She lifted her hands and cupped my face. "I want to sleep now." I smiled at her. "Sleep XiaoBai we're here." She closed her eyes and her body went limp. I took her into the warm spring inside the mountain that I had made when I was young, I untied her hair and it fell all over her body and then I removed her layered robe then I set her inside the spring. I took off my clothes and sat behind her and pulled her to me, as I started transferring my spiritual energy to here, we sat like that for two hours then I got off the water as I left her floating in the water. She looked better now not the pale ghosted girl I had in my arms when we got here, I made her some herbal medicinal tea I went back to the spring to get her, dressed her properly but leaving her hair untied, I summoned a bed for her and I laid her down. I made a small cut in my palm, I parted her lips and let my blood drip inside. I played the zither for her, to soothe her even more but my thoughts were chaotic. XiaoBai how is it that everytime I find that you've given yourself to me more than I thought,
Not for show but for my own safety, you protect me and I usually protect others and they always fall in love with me because of that but you...
XiaoBai would you have told me that you're my little fox that I lost?
XiaoBai you don't listen you always find a way to find me,
XiaoBai don't make me get used to having you by my side only for you to leave me,
I want to be by your side and never part with you
Will you let me?
XiaoBai what have you gone through for my sake?
How much more did you do that was unnoticed by me.
XiaoBai I'm a foolish old man, forgive me my dear XiaoBai.

I heard faint coughing and I looked at XiaoBai seeing that she was starting to wake up, I went and sat next to her. "XiaoBai are you awake?" I asked softly, she opened her eyes and gave me a lazy smile. "dijun." She whispered. "Do you feel any discomfort?" I inquired again. "No I don't....dijun what happened?" She asked as I touched her forehead. "You came to save me again XiaoBai." I said gently. "Did I succeed?" I laughed at her questions. "You did but...you hurt yourself badly XiaoBai." She looked into my and lifted up her hand and touched my hair. "As long as I saved you." She said. "XiaoBai you shouldn't come and save me all the time when there is danger." I scolded softly. " It doesn't matter... it's not like I'll stop just because you said so." She smiled and I immediately felt lightheaded, her eyes moved from me to our surroundings and she gasped. "Home." She sighed in awe, home? What do you mean XiaoBai do you see this as your home. "XiaoBai this is not the fox cave, this is my home." She looked at me and smiled. "Yes I know, this is home." My heart fluttered, she got up to look around touching everything she could get her hands on, she stood looking at the waterfall with purple water and she lost herself into her thoughts. "XiaoBai." She gave another sigh and came back to sit next to me. "What are you thinking about XiaoBai?" I asked because she now looked miserable. "I was thinking that this is home, could be home I'd want to live here for all eternity, it's really beautiful. I could even have built my bamboo house here, enjoying the rest of my days here with you." She then face palmed herself and laughed nervously. "You can still have that XiaoBai." Her eyes looked sadder than before. "You're going to have an Empress soon, someone you love and someone who can love you better than me." No XiaoBai you're very wrong, nobody could love me better than you, your love is the best thing I've ever seen. "It's okay though I knew we were not meant to be from the start, I wanted to thank you for saving me but I ended up liking you and those feelings ended up getting stronger with time. How am I different from all those goddess's who have fallen for you? I remember when I was at your palace in my fox form, it was easier being close to you and watching you to see if you're hurt or in any danger. It was all good until that day when you left me with your Empress, I'll be honest I didn't like her because she had something that I wanted but as long as you were happy it didn't matter whether I had you or not." Her face was full of tears and I wiped them away but she moved her face back. "The moment you had turned your back on me, she had been squeezing me to hard, you know more than anything I'm afraid of pain I didn't know what else to do so I bit her, she threw me against the wall and whipped me with a sizzling rope but luckily Yang Yang had came to save me in time but at the same time you came and even though I was bleeding, I was more than happy to see you but when you punished me by sending me to the monster tower I was utterly broken. I had hoped that even if you were punishing me like that, you wouldn't release the night monsters but I was wrong as soon as the sun went down they came out and I was fighting the whole night." XiaoBai you have suffered so much because of me but I never released any night monsters, "I was very hurt and disappointed but more at myself than you, I went back to the peach groove to my uncle, for ten years I didn't speak not because I didn't have anything to say but it felt like I had lost my voice and myself. My parents and my uncle were worried about me so I started pretending and speaking but uncle knew this was a facade, I'm used to being alone anyway so this was fine too. Even though I was hurt I would still save you because my love for you is bigger than anything bad you'll ever do to me, how pitiful I must be." Then she laughed as she wiped her tears away, her pain filled my heart and I could feel my heart tear. XiaoBai I didn't know you felt like this and I didn't know you went through so much pain but
XiaoBai I promise I won't make you cry anymore, "XiaoBai we have something's we need to clear up." Her beautiful black eyes pierced my soul. "Whatever you have to say can wait, I don't want to be sad in a place like this or leave soon." Her eyes searched mine I could see the hurt behind them but I ignored her. "XiaoBai I'm not getting married not to her anyway, she's not going to be my Empress, I'm sorry that I hurt you so deeply and I know sorry is not enough so I will prove it to you for the rest of your life. XiaoBai if I knew it was you, we wouldn't have wasted so much time." She blinked at me, her eyes still searching mine. "I'm not lying or playing a trick on you, I mean it XiaoBai." I said as I kissed both her hands. "Why are you not going to marry her?" She asked sweetly. "She hurt something that is very precious to me and because  it was more of a favour to her parents... XiaoBai let's not talk about irrelevant people." In the longest time one of those heart weakening smiles touched her lips. "Can we stay here a little bit longer." She asked as her childish joy surfaced. "As long as you want." As long as you want XiaoBai, we can stay here for eternity and I could spend the rest of our lives making it up to you.
