Epilogue | Our Story

One year later,

     Yanan was panting from running all the way to the park from the bus stop. He just finished work and he's about five minutes late for his date with Elkie.

Life didn't always turn out the way people want them to. Yanan always thought he would produce movies someday. He thought it was possible, but he ended up getting a job in KBC TV and became an assistant for advertisement videos. It's only been a year but he felt as though he'd been working hard to be taken seriously for a decade.

Yanan spotted Elkie by the swing and smiled. She had her earphones on and she was reading that rom-com movie script again. At least, one of them was achieving the dream slowly.

He ran to her side and pulled her earphones off her ears. Once she looked up at him, he cupped her cheeks and kissed her lips. She squealed once they separated. “You're here!” She exclaimed happily. Yanan's heart still fluttered warmly.

“I'm sorry for being late.”

“It's okay. I know how hectic it could be.” She said, shoving the script back to her bag. He took her hand and they walked towards their favorite restaurant.

“Is it your treat today?” Yanan asked, smirking.

“Of course! What do you want to eat?”

“I miss when you used to complain about treating me to food.”

Elkie rolled her eyes. “Why is it always my treat?” She complained.

They laughed as they entered the familiar restaurant. The owner had memorized their orders that she didn't even have to ask anymore.

Elkie smiled at him and took something from her bag. A small black envelope with gold ribbons. She pushed it towards him on the table.

“What's this?” He asked.

“It's a celebration party for the success of the movie. You're my plus one.”

Yanan smiled. “When?”

“Next week. Let's look for what we should wear together.”

“Okay.”

“And I've signed the contract with Bang Sumin. I'll be her assistant producer for this romcom movie! It's about two best friends who...” As he watched her talk about her work animatedly, Yanan felt warm inside. He felt proud for her.

The both of them still had a long way to go and there were still so many things to learn, but they've also come so far from two young adults sitting next to each other in front of the TV , watching shows and movies produced by people they only half dreamed to become someday, talking to each other about how they would have done things.

“So, next week, we have a party to go to. Then, this weekend, what do we have?” Yanan asked as he took notes on his phone.

Elkie smiled a bit shyly. “We're looking into that new place.”

Oh, Yanan thought. Here's the thing: Yanan and Elkie have decided to move in together next year. They're getting a lease for a two-room flat in Shanghai. And then some years after that, they plan to get married.
