I sigh.

I turn eighteen today and that was huge for a person.

It was the day they find out things about their soul mates.

Their first words to you show up on your skin and vise versa.

Their hair color forms a strip in your hair of whatever color they have currently.

It's pretty amazing actually.

If they get their hair dyed, the strip in your hair changes color.

The words on your skin however stay the same.

My parents, siblings, and my best friend Jenna were gathered around watching intently for something to happen.

Its never really certain when it's going to happen, it just happens on your eighteenth birthday.

Sage gasps and everyone looks at her. "Look! On his leg!"

Everybody, including me, look down at my thigh. "Jacob"

"Jacob? Is that his name?" I ask confusedly.

"Hey!" Tyde yelps yanking at my hair.

"It's black!"

"Black?"

"Their hair is black," mom says.

"Oh my gosh!" Sage squeals excitedly. "When are you going to meet them?!"

"I don't know," I mumble, rubbing the spot where Tyde pulled my hair.

"Let's go out and meet people! Maybe you'll run into them! I'll call Alex!" Jenna suggests.

I look at the raven colored streak of hair standing out clear against her blonde hair.

I shrug, "Sure."

💫

I look around the café at all the people.

Each person except a few kids have streaks of a different color in their hair, their soul mates sitting with them.

I sigh.

The door bell bings and Alex walks in, his blonde streak showing bright in his small quiff.

Jenna smiles, "Hey."

"Hi," Alex says sliding into the booth next to his girlfriend and pecking her lips.

"Hope you guys don't mind, my cousin came with me. He just moved here and I thought I'd show him around and introduce you guys to him so he's got some friends."

"That's fine," I say.

"Where is he?"

"Out in the car. His mom called."

The three of us catch up for a bit before hearing the doorbell ring again.

"There he is," Alex says as he waves his cousin over to the table.

"Hey."

"Hey. These are the weirdos I was telling you about," Alex smiles.

His cousin looks at me with a grin and holds out his hand, "Jacob."

I freeze for a moment but quickly recover and shake his hand, "Troye."

His smile drops slowly and he glances up at my hair.

He was wearing a SnapBack so I couldn't tell what color his hair is.

He looks at Jenna, "Hi."

"Hey, I'm Jenna," she smiles.

Alex gives a Jacob a smirk, "Uh, Jacob. There's no hats at the table."

I notice his cheeks turn red slightly,

"Right." He takes his hat off and I blush.

I bite my lip as I notice a blond streak of hair standing out against his black hair.

Jenna giggles and tangled her arm with Alex and lies her head on his shoulder.

"So," Jacob mutters, looking at me. "Where's your tattoo?"

lMy leg," I chuckle.

"Mine too."

I blush more and grin.

"So," Alex smiles. "Jenna and I are gonna go hang out. We'll let you guys get to know each other."

The couple slide out of the booth and leave the shop.

Jacob switches to the other side so he's sitting across from me.

We smile at each other.

"How long have you been waiting for this moment?" Jacob asks.

"Well I actually turned 18 today. So about two hours."

"Lucky you. I've been waiting for about six months."

"I'm sorry."

Jacob chuckles, "That's okay. It was worth it."

I grin, "Was it?"

Jacob nods, "You're so much more beautiful than I thought you'd be."

I chuckle and look down at my lap.

Jacob grabs my hands and I look back up. "Happy birthday."

"You're the best gift I've ever received," I blush, making Jacob laugh lightly.

Ordering drink, the two of us get to know each other a little more, falling in love almost instantly.

But that was to be expected.
