Mia shot up in her bed only to be contained by a pair of hands holding her down by her shoulders.
"Gosh, Mia! Can you go one week without terrifying me!?" he asked, letting her go.
"I'm... I'm sorry Blake," she apologized before perking up slightly at a sudden realization. "But hey! At least it wasn't my fault this time, right?"
"It kind of was your fault, though. Why didn't you tell me that you were going to see your mom? Why did you keep it from literally everyone?" he asked. "Well, except Charlie," he added, sounding slightly angry as he clenched his fists, turning around so that he wasn't facing her.
"Are you mad?" she asked skeptically.
Blake turned around before sighing. His features had softened and he seemed to have calmed down a bit. "No, I'm just slightly upset that you chose to tell him instead of me," he admitted.
"What?" she wondered, shocked at his reply. "You're upset that I told Charlie? It wasn't even that big of a deal. He just happened to be there. I couldn't tell you because you already knew about my mom and would have judged me or tried to stop me."
"Well of course I would have tried to stop you, Mia! You were trying to see your emotionally abusive and insane mom! You definitely don't need to talk to her!" he told her exasperatedly, waving his hands through the hair.
"I can do what I want!" she yelled, shocking even herself. "I don't need your approval! I haven't seen my mom in years! Is it so wrong that I wanted to see her!?" she asked, her voice loud and sharp.
"Yes! You shouldn't have wanted to see someone who hurt you for years! That is just idiotic and stupid! I guess I shouldn't be surprised!" he screamed at Mia. She was taken aback. She knew that they were yelling at each other, obviously, but that was a bit much.
After a second of silence, Mia talked, her voice steady and harsh. "I think you need to go," she told him.
"Mia, loo—"
"No," she cut him off calmly. "I need to sleep. I'll see you at school. Maybe. Bye, Blake."
Sighing, Blake left the room without a fight which almost hurt more than his words. He really didn't care about her.
Mia groaned, staring at the intimidating doors. She had done it so many times before so why was it so hard right now?
Charlie laughed from behind her. "Not excited to go back to school, I'm guessing."
"You think? Ugh! I just want to read! It's not like I'd be wasting my time or anything! It's reading. It's supposed to teach you stuff so why do I need to go to school!?" she asked, waving her hands through the air in over-exaggerated anger.
"You," he started, pointing at Mia, "are very insane."
"Hey, Mia." Mia jumped at the sound of a voice right beside her shoulder. She heard laughter from Charlie and it sounded like Bella. Sure enough, when she turned around, she was faced with Bella.
"Haha. Very funny guys," she said sarcastically, rolling her eyes as they laughed at her. "You know, I could have fallen over and gotten hurt," she told them, pointing to her crutches.
"But you didn't," Bella pointed out.
"Plus, if you did, I would have caught you," Charlie added.
For some reason, Mia thought she caught Bella glaring at Charlie. "Can we just go inside now? As weird and entertaining it is to watch you glare at each other, I'm starting to get tired of standing," she admitted.
