27: The death of a witch

Everything was coming together.

The spell had been placed on Caroline, Caitlyn and rivers daughter, Liam is in Ireland searching for his mate,Grayson got a job at the high school, and there hasn't been any new threats.

But even I am not that naive, this is just the calm before the storm.

"Ok Caroline and rose are asleep, Jaxon is chasing the puppy, and river is being chased by Jaxon and the puppy." Caitlyn announced as she took a seat on one of the kitchen stools.

Xavier gave me a look. 'I thought the dog was for your brother...'

I gave him a sweet smile in return.

"So in my opinion that calls for a drink." Caitlyn said as she reached for the cabinet.

She let out a painful yelp and dropped the glass, catching our attention.

"What's wrong?" Xavier asked worriedly.

"I- I don't know..." she hissed out in pain as she clutched her stomach.

Blood... moon stirred awake for the first time in a while.

"Xavier she's bl-"

"I know." He cut me off. "Link river, we've gotta get to the pack hospital."

I didn't have to say anything... River was already running into the kitchen, alpha eyes and all.

"The vampires healed me... something must've happened." Caitlyn informed. River picked her up bridal style and carried her out to the car, Xavier and I got on their tails.

"We can heal on our own, why would they need to heal you?" Xavier asked practically reading my mind.

"Long story..." river got in the drivers side, Caitlyn in the passenger seat, and Xavier and I were in the back. "Black Magic... something about herbs... I don't know it was all kind of a blur."

"A BLUR?! That was the birth of our daughter!" Caitlyn growled angrily.

I sighed before thinking of a solution. "I'll call Zane, if anyone knows what's going on it's him."

"Why do you have Zane's number? Why does she have his number!" Xavier huffed jealously.

I rolled my eyes at that.

"Little locke? To what do I owe the pleasure?" Zane hummed into the phone.

A shiver split down my spine. "You owe me an explanation."

"... oh do I?"

I picked up on someone arguing in the background. Normally I'd meddle but there was more important things at hand.

"Caitlyn's wounds have opened up, she's not healing." I explained.

There was a long pause. I could tell I'd been muted due to the background noises disappearing. However I was soon unmuted and could hear Zane whisper yelling at someone.

"I can't talk you do it."

A sigh came from the other end of the line before a mans voice was audible.

"Hi this is domino's pizza what would like?" The familiar voice spoke followed by a loud noise which I'm guessing was a slap.

"I'd like to speak to Zane." I growled impatiently.

There was another short pause before he spoke again. "Uh he's busy."

Which was also followed with a loud slap and more hushed arguing.

"Hi this is Amara, Zane's... assistant?" She paused questioning herself. "Mr. Bennett has asked me to answer any questions you have."

Dear moon goddess why do I get stuck in these situations.

"At this rate we'll make it to the hospital before the call ends." Xavier mumbled to river still sounding annoyed.

"I want to know why my sister-in-law is BLEEDING OUT!" I growled.

"... have you tried using a tampon?"

And with that I hung up.

"Well?" Xavier looked expectedly.

"I think they drained one too many stoners..."

"They stitched the c-section wound but it's not healing on its own."

River was a mess, Xavier was furious, and I was left to tend to the three children on my own. Thank the moon goddess I don't have any weird powers anymore, I'm pretty sure I would've exploded by now.

"I sent my former beta to speak with the vampires." Xavier informed.

"Great. Now take your child." I growled softly passing Rosalie to him.

Of course she stopped crying as soon as he held her.

"Reinforcements have arrived."

Relief washed over me as my brother entered the waiting room, diapers in hand.

"And so has the answers..." Xavier scowled as Noah, his former beta, entered behind Grayson.

But he wasn't alone. A boy and a girl who I've seen accompany Zane multiple times followed. I believe the girls name is Amara but I can't remember the guys.

"Sorry for the wait, things are a little hectic right now." Amara smiled sweetly.

"Right... so are you going to tell me why my sister-in-law isn't healing?" Xavier questioned losing his patience.

"Long story short, the woman who healed her is... well she's dead." Amara's smiled turned to a more sympathetic one.

Oh.

"Wait they healed her with vampire blood?" Grayson's face contorted in confusion. "I thought werewolves can't be healed by vampire blood."

"She wasn't a vampire, she was a witch-"

The boy whose name I can't remember cut her off before she could finish. "She wasn't just a witch, she was the last remaining pure blood from the lunar coven."

River and Xavier perked up catching my attention.

"The Lunar coven?" River questioned. "As is the coven of witches that used to live around here until one day they all mysteriously disappeared?"

Amara shrugged as if saying she didn't know they answer to his question.

"Wait so when a witch dies their spells just... stop?" I asked curiously.

"It really depends on the spell. The woman was highly educated in lunar spells, which means it can be reversed or... ended until the next full moon." Amara explained.

I'm Not sure why they couldn't just stitch her up and call it day but I decided against asking that.

It wasn't until Xavier asked that I realized we were missing important information...

"So... who killed her?"

A prequel following their parents story 🤔

I know I didn't really bring up their parents until recently but in the rewrite there will be a better explanation. And as far as a story line I'd make that a surprise until I decide whether or not I'm actually gonna write it lol.
