Everything around them, from the obnoxious ticking of the clock to their very noisy neighbour to every creek and hum from outside, was purposely louder than usual. [Name] laid awake, motionless and wide eyes staring at the ceiling. In all their life, [Name] hadn't slept on two occasions.
The first one being their first night in Tokyo. After a soul sucking yet exciting new chapter in life that began with miraculously completing the entrance exam from a quiet well known high school, [Name] practically paved their way for the high school life in Tokyo. The adrenaline and excitement kept them up all night. The teen grew impatient, waiting for the day to begin so they could explore the wonders of the big city.
The second was the first dreadful night in the field. Unlike from their first night in Tokyo, the anxiety and disbelief prayed the sleep away from them. The constant opening and closing of their eyes, hoping to wake up in their room and be done with this dream was the fuel to their determination. But when the clear, star filled sky appeared instead of the dark ceiling in their room, [Name] gave up. It would be pathetic to cry, despite being the only one in the field. The morning after [Name] rocked like a rocking chairs, almost dropping in the lake twice and burning themself. The second night they barely managed to fall asleep. They were a bit glad they got a few hours of peace.
Suppose this marks the third time [Name] couldn't fall asleep. They tried every method they knew of. The military boat one, counting sheep, hitting your head a number of times against the uncomfortable and dirty pillow but nothing seemed to work. The feeling of being watched didn't easy them too. [Name] shifted uncomfortably and turned to the side.
In the corner of the room they could make out two eyes. Eyes that stared directly at them, like a predator watching its prey. [Name] stood still, a chill running up their spine. They breathed in, cold sweat forming on their forehead as they turned away " I must be imagining things..." [Name] pretended to fall asleep, hiding their shaky hands under the pillow. And suddenly they were aware... Besides the eyes in the corner, the teen could feel themself being watched from various corners all around the room.
