"I can't thank you again," Bella sighed, one hand on the steering wheel, the other in her hair tightly. "Seriously."

"It's all good, Bells, " Hazel waved her off, shooting her a smile. "Jacob's a friend; it's only right if we go and see him."

The long-haired brunette continued to drive, letting them fall into silence. The soft sound of the radio filled the quiet truck.

Hazel turned her gaze out the window, nibbling her lip as the scenery sped by. She could feel Bella's stress radiating from her. It was distracting. The curly-haired girl diverted her attention to the raindrops on the window. She stared at the two that raced down the glass. She rested her head against the head of the seat, and the rain on the roof made her sleepy.

Hazel found herself staring into the trees. She frowned at the blurred scenery and couldn't help but let her mind wander. She found herself thinking about Victor at that moment. Seeing the boy the other day had brought up the event that would have happened last year, had it not been for the Cullens. Hazel did owe a lot to the family.

It wasn't long before the old red truck pulled up on the dirt path. The rain had gotten worse, and Hazel silently cursed at herself for not bringing an umbrella. Even through the heavy rain, the pair could see a shirtless Jacob Black wading through the mud. Hazel's face scrunched up in confusion at the sight.

The pair of girls clambered out of the truck. Bella slammed her door shut aggressively before storming up to Jacob. Hazel sighed, closing hers gently and following after the girl. Hazel was annoyed by the cold rain and mud that she trudged through.

"Jake!" Bella called. Hazel quickened her pace as she followed the girl across a small wooden bridge. "Hey!" She shouted again. Jacob stopped and turned to face the girls. "You cut your hair off? And got a tattoo?" Hazel's eyes darted to Bella in confusion at the apparent statements.

She couldn't deny that it startled Hazel, too. She missed the once long, flowing hair of Jacob Black. Now, but short, the boy seemed much older than he was. It reminded her of a younger Christian.

"I thought you were too sick to come outside!" Bella shouted, bringing Hazel back to their current situation. "Or pick up the phone when I call." Bella's annoyance was rubbing off on Hazel as she squinted at the boy.

"Go away," Jacob told the girl. His voice was low and warning.

"What?" Bella asked with a frown.

"Go away," Jacob repeated. He was much more demanding this time.

"What happened to you?" Jacob turned around again. "What's wro--Hey!" Bella grabbed his arm and pulled him back to her. "What happened? Did Sam get to you? Is that what's happening?" Hazel frowned, her gaze now set on the long-haired brunette.

"No, Sam's trying to help me. Don't blame him."  Hazel was unsure of what to say or do. She kept silent, watching the pair like a tennis match was happening. "But if you want somebody to blame, how about those filthy bloodsuckers you love?" His dark eyes flicked to Hazel, narrowing as they turned back to Bella. "The Cullens."

Hazel's fists clenched, and her jaw tightened. She was about to defend the family when several figures appeared in her vision. She whipped her head to them, entirely ignoring the other two as her focus zeroed on the other shirtless boys just at the edge of the tree line. The girl crossed her arms, both from the cold and her rising emotions. She stepped straight past Bella and Jacob, heading straight for the group. More specifically, right at Christian.

The boy looked back at Sam, who was focused on Hazel. He turned back to his best friend, sighing as she gestured for him to head away. He jogged up to the girl, opening his mouth to speak, but Haze cut him off by grabbing his arm and pulling him further.

"Hazel," he breathed.

"No, Christian," She frowned. "What the hell? You dragged Jacob into your little, what? Peace Gang or whatever?" Christian swore he could see the angry waves emitting from her. "He's a kid, Chris! What now? Are you going to tell him about Victoria, too?" She felt bad for telling, but it came pouring out.

"It's not like we can pick and choose!" Christian exclaimed, his arms flying up. "We can't control it! I was much younger, anyways!"

The boy groaned and turned away from her. A gasp emitted from Hazel's mouth as she saw what was on Christian's arm. It was a large intricate tattoo, all in black, just like Jacob's. She assumed it was a Quileute symbol.

"Since when did you have a tattoo?" Hazel cried out. "I swear if Sam made you do that--"

Christian turned back, his dark eyes burning holes into Hazel's. "You know Sam." His hands were warm, even in the freezing rain, and his arms seemed to tremble. "He's not like that. You trust him so much, so please don't throw it away for stuff you don't know."

"Chris, you're confusing me," Hazel shook her head and pushed the boy's hands off. "Tell me. What. The Hell. Happened?"

"I--I--I--" he sputtered, unsure of what to say. "I wish I could tell you. I really, really do, but I'm not allowed." Hazel crossed her arms, now only from the cold. Her gaze softened. "Come on, you know what it's like."

"What are you talking about?" Hazel's eyebrow twitched as her nerve levels spiked.

"You know what it's like to hide something, even when you desperately don't want to," Christian pressed. He stared into her eyes, a serious expression on his face, as he tried to find some sort of reaction.

"Christian, I--" she bit her lip in fear.

"I'm sorry," he sighed, stepping away. He averted his gaze and shook his head. "I need some time at the moment, okay? And so will Jacob, maybe."

He ran his hand through his hair and quickly jogged back to Sam. Hazel watched after the boy, her gaze flicking to Sam for a moment. He waited for Christian to return, then the boys all headed into the forest. He and Hazel stared intensely at each other for a moment before the older male shifted away and followed after the others.

The girl huffed as she hurried back to Bella's truck, where the girl already sat. She could feel the loud thumping of her heart in her ears. One hand gripped her chest as the other slammed the passenger side door shut. She could hear the conspiracies swarming in her mind, something she hadn't had to deal with for a long time. Hazel couldn't help but smile at it.

"Here we go again," she muttered with a grin as Bella backed out of the area.
