Meredith Darling was quite smart. And her straight record of 'O's on her O.W.Ls proved that ( other than History of Magic which she received a measly 'E' but no one in particular cared about History of Magic and she was quite certain Professor Binns did not want her back in his class this year for being a complete nuisance ).

"So, how's the new Gryffindor Quidditch Captain?" Meredith laughed, earnestly ( for the first in quite a while ), as she ruffled Harry's already messy black hair. Daphne had come by often, worried about Meredith spending her days alone at the Manor, but nothing beat being back with her favourite trio once again.

After receiving the news about her excellent grades, she almost immediately got an invitation from Harry to accompany them to Diagon Alley to shop for their school books as well as to stay at the Burrow for the remainder of the summer. He had apparently been living there for the past few days, dropped off by Dumbledore himself. Meredith accepted the invitation enthusiastically; it definitely beat hanging around the empty Manor the whole day with only her distracted father for company in the evenings. He seemed even more distant than usual, often murmuring to himself about something.
